This following sculpt is a belated birthday present I just finished for my mom and presented to her today. She absolutely loved it and I'm really proud of what the final result turned out to be. It took many months and a lot of deliberation to create and it's whole purpose was to showcase the crystal sphere she'd bought, but without overshadowing it. So, enjoy.

Wow, that deserves a thread all its own. That's really a very charming creation.

I'm trying to get a sense of scale. How tall is it?

I believe it measures about 10-15 cm from base to top of the head. The smallest creation I've ever worked on.

Somehow that's what I thought it might be in terms of size. Very nice detail on something that small....
You know, seriously, that would be something I would buy my fiancée if I saw it in the store....it is that nice.

I agree, my wife and daughter would go nuts for one!

Yeah, I could probably make a killing from making these, if it wasn't for the fact it takes forever and shipping is not an option. But thanks for the comments guys. :cheers

I don't often like stuff like this mainly because the market is just so cynical but this piece is charming.
There's a refreshing honesty about it that really appeals to me and I love the slightly 'raggedy-ann' aspect of the subject (one sock up, one sock down). A very lovely and inspirational piece. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Couldn't you make a mold of it and make resin copies? Maybe do the wings separately...I've seen stuff like that shipped and it is just carefully wrapped in that very thin white packing paper for fragile items (usually made of glass).

No. Molding and casting is not an option, sadly.

Started a new project for my aunt. Hopefully it won't take as long as this one took to finish.

I struggled for a while on how to do the wings, as I needed something rigid, yet light and knew it would be difficult sculpting them out of apoxie sculpt, so I took a lid from a plastic candy box and drew up the shapes, then cut them out and glued them together. Then I drew up the pattern and then stuck sewing string onto the lines by sticking them down with paint, one step at a time and eventually covering the whole surface and strings with paint, before painting black and blue. The fact that the plastic was transparent also made it easier to get the lines exact on both sides. :)

I always liked the blue color from Testors but never knew what I could use it for, but it fit perfectly for this sculpt and the wings. Initially I had considered red, but it didn't exactly fit with the introverted type of character I was sculpting. There was some back and fourth and definitely a struggle whether I should dot the very bottom of the wing tails with blue, but decided against it. Also considered adding yellow around the black dot inside the blue panel on the upper wing, but once again, decided against it. I simply wasn't brave enough to risk it. The pattern was difficult, but it feels just right.
