I'm just taking a quick stab at this but the one thing that pops out at me are the sensors.
They difinitely look cleaner and more like cast off originals then either of mine ever did..

It would be good to see #188 and #189 side by side.
They are way different.

The mesh on #17 and #189 is a slightly larger pattern.
The foam in both is similar but not the same.
The resin sensors are a totally different shape.
Nosebridge wider on #17
And gunmetal paint on both are different as well.
The clip and straps on #17 is different to #189. The clip on #17 is similar to the rubies photo but not the same.

I hate to bug you for more photos of your helmets, but pretty please (especially the Rubies looking one)? They are very valuable educational references. If you can get some hi-res shots taken 6 feet back, but post links if they're too big for a forum post. I can resize them down as needed. Thanks!

Did I win? :hehe-err

The right (as you view it) neck corner appears to have been cut to reduce the perception of neck flare. It now looks very rounded. It could be the photography. What did I say about 6 feet? :toothy

The front-facing mouth triangle and "U" of the nose seems to have been sanded to bring out more detail.

The teeth holes seem to have been widened slightly, but it could be just the photography and lighting, as the teeth bars' cross section wasn't perfectly rectangular on the Deluxes.

The notches in the bridge of the nose is sharper than your regular Don Post Deluxe.

And the paint scheme's obviously not the mirrored version.

If not a copy then it's modified from its original state. But I've noticed that people selling copies generally hack off the tusks. Below is an example of Portumac's recast of the DLX.

Hi guys,

Here's my freshly repainted Don Post Deluxe #334, sorry about the photo quality. The DP was painted by one of our fellow Den members Kraaam, thanks Mark :cheers This DP has very very little neck flare (I did not correct or mod the neck in any way). The only mod I did (apart from correcting the reversed colour scheme) was to lower the dome a little, and it makes a great difference. The last few photo's are taken on Marks full size display, looks great!!!

Nice DPD Fatherless One :thumbsup
I hope you don't mind me using one of your pics for this demo. I just wanted to touch on the
negative things that people say about the DPD neck flair. As i said in one of my earlier posts
any Vader Helmet that is authentic should have some flare to the neck and as you can see
with Fatherless Ones helmet, it almost matches the screen used helmets flare perfectly, Almost
Now i'm not saying all DPD are good because we have seen that some of the DPD helmets are
horrible, but if you can get a hold of one with a very subtle flare then you have one hell of
a helmet and collectable
please keep in mind the angle is not perfect

No prob's and great comp bro :thumbsup

As you say, some DP's were bloody terrible, but if you get a good one, you've got something with tons of potential.

I get the impression DP just pumped out casts and randomly added the plaques, so lower numbered casts are not necessarily the best. I was very lucky I think,

I bought this on Ebay around 2000 and it was my first fibreglass Vader helmet, the auctions photo's made it look like crap and the lenses weren't in place, they'd fallen out.

Thanks Fatherless One
I totally agree with you.. So does this make it definitive, that having a low #rd DPD doesn't mean you
have a perfect helmet? because If all low #rd helmets were near perfect that would mean DP only had one
mold in which to work from which is totally crazy thinking because it would take Don Post about
3 years to complete production especially when you consider the finishing work that still had to be done.........
This also lends credence to what The person at Don Post told me so many years ago

It was a pleasure to redo the paint job on this helmet and help Al to show it of to you all to compare.

Cookman, Drop me line when your coming down to my neck of the woods.
