Here are some shots of my RC SD kit. This is an ESB kit retro'd to look more ANH-esque!!! The original was a solid white with no gray panelling. The large X shaped tractor beam generator was in the upright position and the rear of the bridge tower and the engine pods had extra details on them...........missing from the ESB/ROTJ version of the ship. This isn't the standard build of the RC kit, because I added about 1000 extra detail bits all over the trenches and buildings myself. It will be fully fiber optic lit and I'm not finished with the engine section yet......still some minor adjustments etc to go. But very close. Enjoy!!!

Dave :)

That is awesome. I watched the progress of the master being made and the stock kit is excellent, but you have taken it to a whole new level.

Did you make the base?

Thanks guys. I did make a quickie base for it out of lumber I had laying around. The supports on it came with the kit. I may end up supporting it from the side however using a couple panavise mounts so it looks like it "hovers". I'll get to that later. The only other thing I may consider is perhaps 3 clear lucite posts sticking up out of a MR style mirror topped base. I'm trying to put as little in the way of seeing all the details as possible. If my panavise idea works, that will look the absolute best. The overall length is just over 40" from bow to stern. I also plan to put a miniature Tantive IV (also included) but also superdetailed underneath the SD as if it's just about to capture it.

That model kit is simply amazing! And you are doing a great job with all the detail work! :eek

I can’t wait to see it when it's all finished.

I really want to get one of these kits… :pale

If you'd be willing, I think there'd be a lot of interest in seeing how you do the lighting on this thing in detail. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

It's really pretty simple. You do the following:

Buy a cheap fiberoptic lamp at wal-mart. Cut all the fibers free in the longest lengths possible.

buy a tiny micro drill bit the size that matches the fibers (slightly larger than fibers)

drill holes wherever you want lights.

put fibers in the holes sticking out about 1/4" extra and fix from inside with superglue

Every 4-5 inches, make a bundle of the fibers you glued in place and tape them together in a tight bunch. Trim them so the end of the bundle is flat.....close to the tape.

Get some small pvc tubing from hobby town and cut it into 1/2" cylinders. Glue the ends of the bundles into the cylinders so that they are about 1/2 of the way into the cylinder. On the other end of the cylinder you will glue in your LED.

I use the christmas tree lamps where you get about 25 LED's per strand.............all this runs off of batteries. You can buy the A/C type of light strands if that is your wish.

Once you get everything lit and wired, then you prime/paint the ship. You paint the fibers on the outside as well. Then when it's all dry, you clip the fibers close to the hull with tiny toenail clippers also found at walmart.

I would advise cutting one of the wires from each battery box from the lights, about 3 inches from the box..................and wire in a single switch (slide switch etc) between the cut ends of that wire from each box. Then turn all the boxes on............and the one switch will control the entire ship.

Sweet.

Went completely over my head, but maybe that's because I'm tired. Will have to re-read all that tomorrow and hopefully I'll get it. Thanks for sharing how you do it! :thumbsup
