From a legal standpoint Jez i don't believe if AA didn't sculpt the original helmet that he will automatically lose the case LFL are bringing against him .
He will only lose if LFL can prove that they own the IP which is a whole different ballgame they will have to show documented evidence that the work was done under contract or by an employee.
Showing someone else did the work is of no consequence as you can only sue for IP theft if you legally own the IP.
I can see AA's reproduction of the stormtrooper armour being very damaging in itself if nothing else though with BM's statement regarding him sculpting that assuming again there is a paper trail backing that up.

Of course if AA didn't sculpt the helmet he has no case against LFL in his counter case either.

The moral issue is another matter and certainly if it is shown that AA didn't sculpt the original it will do his already somewhat tarnished reputation even more harm.

Although if LFL has pics that prove he didnt sculpt it (and they can demonstrate that someone working for LFL sculpted the head and AA merely based his helmet on this clay sculpt), then imo he would have a hell of a job proving any kind of IP ownership

However I agree with all your post

Cheers

Jez

Brian Muir said he actually thought for many years that AA sculpted the helmet until he was shown the photo ('s) of the original sculpter. I asked him if it was Liz Moore and he said she had nothing to do with the stormtroopers.

Search no more.

Through some extensive sleuthing, tireless hours researching and my inimitable detective skills, I have uncovered what appears to be the elusive photo. Let the truth be known.

Your Honor, I present to you EXHIBIT A:

Hahahaha, that's too funny! Great photoshop work, Captain Archer! :toothy

Actually, if he were to submit that as evidence, he'd soooo lose the case! :ac6

Scott - thats frikkin hilarious :lol :lol :lol

Paul - Thats just what Brian Muir said to me a few years back (apart from the bit about the pics as he hadnt seen them at this point).

I think LFL in their action think it's Liz, which IMO is crazy when the only contracted sculptor on the project says it wasnt!

Cheers

Jez

Interesting that this threads come up again.

Well in the intervening time some new evidence apparently HAS emerged, thats turned this whole issue on its head. There was a discussion about this on thre RPF a few weeks back, here's my comment....

As far as the “Did he sculpt the original Stormtrooper Helmet” issue, this has been the KEY issue for me over the past 5 years. Despite a considerable amount of investigation over the years, talking to a number of people involved in production (like John Mollo and Brian Muir long before anyone else here did), I reached a dead end with no other possible candidate other than AA. HOWEVER the LFL v SDS case has thrown up a new piece of evidence this year, namely LFL’s insistence that there was an “Original Clay Sculpt” and this was backed up by 5 photographs taken by Gary Kurtz at Elstree very early in Jan/Feb ‘76 (est). This information and especially the photos cast a totally different light on this issue.

If as it now seems, it is finally confirmed that AA didn’t personally sculpt the helmet then imo it places him in a wholly different position from a moral standpoint, let alone legal. This backs up Brian Muir's recent comments after he saw the "newly emerged" photos

Cheers

Jez

I don't think I read that debate on the RPF, could you name the thread or post a link please.

Did the pictures get released or are they still withheld from public view?
