OK here's a dumb question...

Is the helmet gunmetal color supposed to match the armor gunmetal color? It seems to me that the armor is lighter, but maybe it's the lighting?

I think it would be safe to assume that they are the same color.

I painted My armor and helmet the same Colors.. I've noticed that the angel
of the Chest Armor gives the illusion of being a different color because of
the way the light hits it..

In all the OT films, if you can study production photos, you can see the faceplate metallic gray and the chest armor's metallic gray are the same color. There are times where people have thought differently and use the ROTJ Death Star landing bay scene as the basis of why Vader is supposedly very dark, or why the armor is brighter.

This article discusses a set photo, and you can see there is plenty of black on the floor and walls (offscreen) that reflected on the mask, making it look dark. Also, the publicity shot of him in the landing bay looking right into the camera - the armor is reflecting a lot of overhead lighting based on its angle in relation to the face.

Here is an ESB production photo. http://www11.pic-upload.de/16.12.14/xmebi7xebcc5.jpg

And ANH: https://qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-f ... 16148cef-c

In each of the above examples, you can see the metallic gray paint of the face and armor are within the same brightness range when they are not terribly contrasted by set lighting.

Hope this helps! :cheers

I agree with the people who believe this.

I understand. And that is why I say that production photographs can give you insights than screenshots alone can provide.

Here is the ROTJ Vader. Notice the face isn't nearly as dark as how his mask reflects the black surfaces of the set in the landing bay scene.

There are plenty of reference photos of the helmets outside of the landing scene that show a much lighter gunmetal. It was the extreme overhead lighting coupled with the large flaring of the dome blocking the light that created the dark effect on the face. I done the same with my helmets and got the same effect.
