I think its cool efx is taking a risk and doing more obscure helmets for the collector.I will say that the fan made ones i have seen look better than this one.

Let's just hope they are equally willing to take a risk on the less prominent helmeted characters from the actual movies, such as the Biker Scout, Royal Guard, TIE and Imperial Gunner.

Someone really needs to do justice to a At-AT driver helmet,Efx should tackle that one.

Okay, back on topic. Found this pic on RS.

eFX is working with Jay, the same guy who did the 3D modeling of the McVader.

Pretty cool but most of the Mcquarrie stuff was sketches rough sketches, with a symmetries etc. etc. granted there are few finished production prints but still done by hand.
Its kind of like taking a Tk helmet and 3D modeling it and having it cut out on a cnc machine....doesnt look right as with the MR TK everyone said it looked "weird" being symmetrical.
I think making a symmetrical helmet based on hand drawn sketches wont give you that same feel just like the wonky original TK helmets dont look right symmetrical.
In this age of technology where guys who actually sculpt things by hand are becoming extinct and being replaced by everything symmetrical I guess youll have to learn to like "perfect" props.
I know some may think I'm biased because I sculpted this same helmet by hand but really i dont think a computer generated McQuarrie helmet looks the part, and not because I did one because mine isnt perfect by any means but the a symmetries and wonkiness of the hand made ones i think captures the feel of the sketches better than a machine created one.

The other thing is is no 2 MQ sketches of the TK were exactly the same so like me efx has taken artistic interpretation of the design. The double tiered lip in the model is something I have never seen on any of the drawings and the bridge of the nose looks l;ike something they created.I say if the production helmet comes out like the model it'll be a nice helmet.

Skygunbro: I've admired your helmet over at starwarshelmets.com and would prefer to acquire one of your offerings over this mass-marketed s**t any day... precisely for the logic you have stated... i.e. LFL can only mine this stuff for so long - 35 years - anyone --- think will you buy the "new" stormtropper offered by LFL in 2020?!?!?!?!

Appreciate the kudos but I dont want to make this out to be a bash thread I like Efx and what they are doing and I also like the fact they are taking a risk as a company and doing stuff no one else is doing or has done, for a license company anyway.
My comments weren't to compare or to say who's helmet is better etc. just my opinions based on being an old timer and growing up with the real hand fabricated props that weren't "perfect" and how their imperfections gave them not only character but uniqueness.something that a 3d modeling program and cnc machine can not do....least not yet anyway lol.

If they widened the sides a bit, having it flair out more, I think it would greatly improve the look of the piece.
