Hi guys,

Can anybody tell me what the correct temperature is for remodelling ABS with a heat gun? I'm doing some mods to my FX armor and I've been told that you have to get the temperature just right. If it's too high it can cause browning.
Also, does anyone know if there are any tutorials online to do with remodelling FX armor?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks for that. There's some helpful stuff there. Unfortunatley, the link on that site about trimming armor is down.

I have only reshaped HIPS, but I should imagine the same methos will work with ABS.

Keep your heat gun about 6" away from the plastic and warm it up evenly. I use the same method as spray painting by going over the entire surface up and down and then left to right. I do this a couple of times and see if I can bend the plastic to it's new shape. If it isn't hot enough then it will only flex back. Do it again and for longer but never hold the gun still. You must keep moving and sweeping across the plastic or it will warp or burn. Once it is hot enough, bend to shape. You will find that is will be necessary to over bend it as it will flex back a bit after it has cooled.

Hope that helps!

-Paul.
