Here's a box of a ROTJ belt I got from ol' Porty.

I admit the metal buttons are screen-accurate in size, but they just seemed wimpy. Partly because they're small, and partly because they look like painted plastic. It turns out that they are actually aluminum but the tops simply aren't polished.

I had already bought these replacements off ebay. They are larger, and they're of a different design. In the photo below, I replaced 5 out of the 6 and left an original in there for comparitive purposes.

What do you guys think?

Got any more pics of these new knobs out of the box? They seem familiar to me.

Larger looks better. You sure the smaller ones are screen accurate?

I'm not sure of anything. :conf

I can only judge based on proportions, and the ROTJ reference pics.

Although the photo in the bottom shows small knobs, the style looks similar to mine.

The knobs I have may be a slight tad bigger but the more metal Vader appears to have on him, the better.

I would say that these new ones you have are not quite right, if they didnt taper down to where they attatch to the box they would be nice. And the box in the last photo you posted i dont think was screen used. Maybe a stunt belt at most. Thats just my 2 pence, go with what your happy with

I've recently retrieved my old Armada edition Star Wars Story Book which has a few clear pics of ANH Vader. Although the photos are a bit fuzzy, it seems to me the smaller knobs are more accurate, but need to have a red "washer" around the base of each knob. Has anyone else seen something like this?

Yes, but the Portumac boxes are RotJ, so it would be wrong to use ANH pictures as reference.

Seen it but don't recall anyone having it on their costumes... could be wrong.

The smaller knobs are more accurate....the large ones throw the look all off to me.

My 2 cents....

If I changed anything, I would reduce the size of the braided hose and make the red LED bigger.

If you notice too, on most of the replica boxes out there the 2 green lights are not centered correctly, these appear fine though.

The knobs look like crap IMO, sorry but the computer case speed nuts are way to big, the box in the picture (which is mine) is a lot larger than the Porty you are working on.
The box's I make in metal are larger than portys. and I have tried the same knobs and scrapped the idea, they make a different type that look alot better.

Here is a belt I just finished for a member with the smaller case nuts.

Interesting! Can you post some closeup photos of your knobs?

Here is a pic of one of my old belt boxes that I trashed because I drilled out the green lights too wide.

I use these type of case screws and sand them down lower on a belt sander.

They're still blurry, but I appreciate the effort.

Are the tops of the knobs supposed to be smooth and flat? Or are they suppose to have a concentric circular texture?

I guess what I'm asking is if mine (before mods) were accurate to begin with.
