Taken a few years ago when the display was in Michigan. Mostly done for research, information and comparisons. The pics are mainly of the faceplate and dome. Enjoy.

I think i'll never understand why they cut the tusks down on the stunt mask.
Cool Pic's also from the MGM Vader on the other thread.

What do you mean? They clearly broke. A fate that's seen on many authentic helmets.

SWEET! Thanks, Pete :salut I wish one of those tours would come somewhere close to Colorado. It's weird that as much a western hub as Denver is that nothing like this ever come anywhere near there.

I not remember where, but i read a story from Bob Anderson , that they cut of the tusks and remove the chin mesh on the stunt helmet for the stunt takes in ESB.
The mesh therewith he could see better in his helmet and the tusks cause the risk of injury.
But i not understand where was the risk of injury in the tusks.
No one else remember this story?

Heard about them removing the grills, but not the tusks - and it has tusks in the movie, as far as I remember. Also, the reason you see them missing now is because they were clearly broken off through handling (likely after production) and took out some of the tube tip as well.

Looked again and found it, not a story from Bob Anderson as i thought.
I read it on Jez's site, starwarshelmets.com.

Cool to see now in this close ups.
Clearly to see that they add those transparent cheeks.

Dat prop! Dem pics!! Magnificent!!!

Thanks for putting up the photos Karo, it's the closest I will ever get to my favourite prop of all time ever (don't know why exactly lol).

I'm guessing there has been some discussion here about the PA and where it came from, I need to track that down.

Although I have a few reasonable images, I've waited years to see photos like this of this helmet. Finally. It so much demonstrates what an experienced eye for detail can capture from a helmet such as this. What a fantastic collection of images. I mean, this is how if I was standing in front of it how I would shoot it. Finally someone knows how to photograph a prop. You really made my day. As you can imagine I'll be immersed with these in research for a long time to come. Thanks! :salut

One suggestion. Press view all, tag all, generate thumbnail html code, copy and paste.

(for the old and lazy! :ac6 :blah )

These images helped me a while back when you first took them and I never get tired of looking at them. You don't see this level of sharing around too often :thumbsup

Did you notice the little holes on Vader's left tube end? Cool. You'd all be surprised how common these actually are.

Since seeing the shots of the PA on starwarshelmets, way back when..., and how it looks to of been maybe more cut up than just to add the perspex, I had wondered if the effects dept toyed with different ideas for the ESB reveal using this piece - like, possibly having the reveal from the front? Or, in a similar way to when Quaid removes the 'fat lady' mask in Total Recall, it breaks away down the middle, head gets removed, mask reforms. Guess it would make an interesting case for them DVDs lol.

Was also thinking the PA's face shape may of been distorted by all the tinkering so I enlarged and layered this pic over Karo's - IMG_1990.jpg - and was surprised to find the shape still holds and a number of details still show through rather well from the ANH to the PA. Nice!

I started making a 'Highlights' layer to point out some cool detail hits from PA to ANH but really most of the pic would be covered in red circlings lol. See, this is what happens when I get time off :D
