I read the other day that someone said there was no S bend on an original trilogy Dome ..Err..I was confused by that and have only just had time to reply.

It's hard to spot but I can assure you it's definately present. Not obvious but if you know what you are looking for, you will notice it in some scenes. I just done 3 quick screen grabs but I encourage others to find it on other pictures at their convenience  .

The screen used domes. It's subtle but it's there...Dont forget when light and angles come into play it can affect how prominate it shows up. Most people dont seem to know that this slight bend exists.
It's no different to the ESB above, it just depends what angle you can catch it at, from how noticeable it is.

This particular curvature IS ABSOLUTELY on all legitimate OT domes. It is far more subtle, however by the time you get to the ROTJ dome. Obviously the entire helmet is softer in detail by then. It's clearly visible on the ANH/ESB helmets however.

Hey welcome Dave! :cheers :cheers

Just an aside...the ANH dome in my avatar doesn't seem to have the s-shape but then again this is not the same ANH helmet as the Tantive IV...
Do you know if the s-shape is related along the lineage or just a result of the pull quality and it occurred more than once? It's a bit like evolution where you can have features that are the same but arise independent of one another...just curious...

I know what your saying Thomas, It should be evident on all screen used pieces, I have not seen one without it, if the pictures show that particular angle.

I find it the same as the notch on the nose in a sense. You cant see it in every screen cap, but it's there, and as it is quite a feature, there is no reason why it should not be on there.

The only way I can explain it is, Looking at a TM dome which matches exactly, it would literally have to be sanded in one spot and then filled in another quite significantly to disappear.

Regarding lighting and angles again...If you turn the dome a fraction so it is straight that S bend is often hidden, that's probably why you can't make it out on all of them, but it should be there other wise it cant be authentic IMO unless it has been heavily cleaned up.
