They weren't THAT much. Were they? I got mine for 400 bucks from someone who bought one and started to repaint it. It is a heavy bucket because it is made of fiberglass. You guys wouldn't blink at paying hundreds of dollars for a finished vader. Why should a stormtrooper be any different?

400 sounds like a great deal - I couldn't afford one even if I put up my
ass for rent at the Blue Oyster bar ...

Well, a LOT more time and effort goes into making Vader buckets.
2 big molds (Dome and Mask) - a lot of cutting, installing eyelenses,
grills, Tusks, fitting the mounting System with each new helmet,
2 Tone piant-jobs often with clearcoat ... a lot more work than on a
one-piece Trooper Bucket or an already white ABS Kit I believe.

I guess we could argue until the cows come home. I held off on the initial run and my intuition paid off. I got lucky. I still have to paint the thing myself. You also have to factor in the rarity of the piece. It's a lazerscanned copy of a screen-used helmet. No guesswork about it. That is THE helmet. I get pretty bent out of shape when it comes to recasts, but as you know, that is a very gray area. I have my own code that I live by and I don't expect anyone else to live by it.

The guy who started this thread did only ask for advice on painting, and look
how the Thread has already evolved ... :rolleyes ...

I think it should be split and put in another section, as this discussion is
of course to be continued - :)

To be the first to give paint advice - don't spraypaint it use brushes -

No need to be sorry - :) - This discussion is important, it should only take
place in a new thread ... as it does now - :) ... so let's continue :toothy

Did TE buy the original or just get a scan of it done ?
Either way there's some money to shell out i'd assume that he would have got a pro to do the scan and i'd guess the owner would want something out of the deal.
Then he would have had to have the master printed thats not cheap.
A fibreglass helmet is more time consuming than a rotocast resin one to make aswell.
All this other guy has done is either bought one of TE's helmets or "borrowed" one poured some rubber over it and swished some resin around inside the resulting mould.
Goes some way to explaining the price difference.
How many of the SFS helmets were made ?

I don't know all the details. I know there was a ton said about it a while back. TE is not the current owner of the SFS helmet, but it was in his posession at some point. I believe it was scanned for the Gentle Giant busts. I've looked at the GG bust helmet and it is a dead-on match.

I got an email from TE last year, and his prices for a FG one were $900 unfinished, $1200 finished. No joke.

They are only worth what people will pay. I know he lowered the prices eventually, but no matter. Some see it as the closest you'll get to owning a screen-used helmet and some see it as a fiberglass abomination. :lol

Now this is a pain in the arse.I was really hoping some bastard wouldn`t do this.I own #1 of the one peice SFS helmet and also the prototype and only one made seperate ears version. There wasn`t many of these sold so I would think it would be easy to narrow down who did it.Shame really.
