Yeah, it's a little nerve-racking to work on. :)

That's a great looking helmet you have there. You must have balls of steel to have modified it . I'm sure the finished helmet will look stunning . I'm really jealous :lol , I'd love to display that at home.

Well, I have the correct sized tusks ordered from Fatherless One. Should see those pretty soon. Also waiting on my Lens from Vader Monkey. Still can't find the correct scale mesh for the grill, until I find one closer I use the one shown below ... out of a used shop-vac air filter. Oh, and I've obviously begun the painting process as you can see (below).

There's a few spots that need wet sanding and buffing. Like under the chin I had some paint crinkle ... But in general I think it's getting pretty close.

I just wanted to give a big round of thanks to my friend Carsten, for helping me obtain this awesome looking helmet. I'm really glad I didn't settle for something else. Thanks again Carsten!

Kind Regards,

Jesse

Man... you had this in such a short while and you've already painted it... nearly finished it. I secretly hate you a little now, as mine is still only primed and barely finished trimming from when I scanned it.

You're quite welcome. The other options on the market are great helmets in their own right, and DS is a great guy all-round. Just glad you found what you were looking for and that I was able to help you a little in your search.

That's looking really great. I'll mkeep an eye open for some mesh for you. Is it the same size as the ANH mesh? I have some here. ( just in case I ever manage to get the chance to buy a helmet as awesome as yours )

Great photos and you've nailed the look of the gunmetal. Did you use a clearcoat?

Thanks,

I'm pretty happy with it so far... a few minor paint flaws. But that's easy enough to fix.

The ESB mesh is larger than the ANH mesh. I've looked everywhere for the real thing. That would be great if you could find some, thanks!

No, I haven't used clear coat at this point. Kind of on the fence with that ... I'm afraid it would be too shiny. But I will have to do some wet sanding on the paint flaws anyhow... So I may not have a choice but to do so.

Took a few photos in the sunlight for you guys. You can see where I need to fix the paint in a few spots. But overall it's looking pretty decent I think.

Well you've got a nice shiny look there so it'll be good to see how it turns out. I'm interested because I've just finished a TM ROTJ off and didn't use a clearcoat and I am trying to decide whether its got the right level of polish. Part of it is about the lighting and photography of course so I need to work out how to take some good photo's of mine.

Take photos of it outdoors, on an overcast day......the results will blow your mind. I shoot all my props like this ever since a good friend gave me that tip. Seems to show off the details and true colors better. Very nice helmet!!!!!!

Excellent work! Did you finish off the mounting system and put a ring inside the dome?

Yes, that is true.

I'll take overcast over sunny for any photo shoot.

If interested, here's some of my photography work: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jjmcclear/sets/
