My first post. I'm so excited!
So I purchased two of those very cheap airsoft Mausers (€2,95 a piece!) a while ago. Most of you probably know them, they have been offered by several different companies, Double Eagle for example. I don't have a real Mauser or Denix for comparison but I measured the airsoft gun and the measurements match the data available from Mauser, so as cheap as the gun is, the size matches the original and so I decided to convert it into the famous good blaster at the side of our most beloved scoundrel as best as I could. This isn't a Mauser C-96 but rather a M-712, the automatic fire version so I tried to get as close to the original as I could but the grip halves tell the secret...
I decided to keep the firing mechanism workable so there is this ugly gap that shouldn't be there. If I ever decide to convert the second airsoft gun I will change that to make it look more like the original and less like a toy.
I purchased the left side greeblies and the beautiful muzzle flash hider from an UK based company called "Century Castings" for just 10 bucks! Those are really nice resin castings, unfortunately I ordered the very last items. Not sure if there will be any new casting runs in the future. I got the M19 scope and the scope mount from Shapeways, but can't remember the name of the vendor, sorry. As you can see the scope is a bit too small. I contacted the vendor but his answer was: "ah, come on, it's not
that bad!" but look for yourself! I attached the scope with only three small drops of CA glue so I can easily replace it with a scope in original size if I get one, one of those days. Apart from the size it's a nice scope. The year was "1970" for whatever reason so I made it look like the paint chipped off at that particular spot. The crosshairs are pics from the internet, printed on sticker paper. The lenses are just clear plastic from a blister pack cut to shape and glued on.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures during the conversion process but here are two pictures with the unaltered airsoft gun so you can see what changes I made:
All in all I'm pretty satisfied with the end result. The blaster looks awesome in my sideboard and whenever I take it out and wield it I can hear that metallic voice in my head, saying: "We would be honored if you would join us..."
