I didn't know until just watching this that Close Encounters of the Third Kind was the other nominee in the Special Visual Effects category. If ever there was a reason to declare two winners, this would be it!

I think it may have been the first time the person in the Hero stormtrooper had ever worn the costume (hands forward preparing for an imminent fall lol).

I remember watching this. I even set my audio tape recorder up to record the Star Wars portions in case they played some film footage.

I was so upset when Annie Hall won best picture. Thinking back, I do feel that Star Wars was probably the "best" picture that year. Annie Hall is great but ANH was the shit, hands down.
