Looking too cool. And yeah, I'd be interested in the history too if you are able to share it.

Would love to have one of these.

Nice score. :thumbsup

Looks like it could have come from or was inspired by this:

It was a cast sold on eBay a long time ago. Never heard of again.

It was speculated that it could have been a cast off the plaster cast mold from production, but I think Brian Muir said it wasn't. Can't find the thread where it was discussed though... could be the Vader facts thread... I'll keep searching.

This is the only known picture currently available of the actual sculpt - barely seen at the right hand side of the picture:

On the cast above , is that the mysterious backplate we see on the helmet?
Well.... the never used connection piece for the tabs on the mask?

The shape of the neckpart is realy interesting cause it looks similarly as the RotS Vader neck.
As Georg wanted to great the RotS Vader as that Vader he not could made back in '77, it maybe would made sence that this mask is the father of the RotS mask.
What belongs the primal design itself.

I'm not following you there. The tabs on the face mask connect to the opposite tabs placed in the dome on the screen used helmet.

There's really no connection with this to the RotS helmet. The RotS started out from the prop department molding a Return of the Jedi helmet and making a cast, then cut up, mirrored, and put back together as a Frankenstein creation of the original sculpt.

So is that the real deal, or a replica of 'how it was'?

Seriously cool find if it is a cast from the REAL thing.. thank you for sharing such cool pictures! I always wondered what the additional "rear" piece was supposed to look like.

Well i know how the RotS Vader helmet was made. I wanted to say that they maybe come back to this design as they made the RotS Vader helmet.
( the RotJ helmet has not this neckline)

Cause of the tabs. Well i heard a story that those tabs not were for to connect the dome with the faceplate.
They should connect a second part of the helmet to have a completly closed helmet.
As i saw this pic's i thought me that this is that version of that helmet i got told.

Also in all helmets i have seen, there is to much space between the facemask and the dome mount fo to use those apple tabs as connector.
