Nice, but slightly heartbreaking, piece about Joe Johnston's McQuarrie Vader...

Assuming it's true, Joe has been busted in blatant lies before when it comes to Star Wars.

We all know that Joe was a spacetrooper in ANH, it's well documented and photographed:

Joe's story is that he was the only spacetrooper made and that they filmed the scene twice and that he is both spacetroopers in the scene. He's told this story for a decade or more and the story has never changed. You would think that would be an accurate memory even after 20 years.

Well now we have this production picture showing otherwise.

Any questions.

There are other things Joe has said over the years that are totally false, but I think that the fan community chalks alot of that up to fuzzy memory. But this one is much more than fuzzy memory if you ask me.

Well, It wouldn't suprise me if that photo was a composite image too. There are elements in that
picture that look overlayed and repeated. Also the lighting is suspicious - in theory, if that trooper
on the right was standing in line with the other then I would expect some shadow on him from the diffusion lighting.

Just a thought!

That is a photo composite image. Plain as can be. So be careful who you are calling a liar.

That was just the first one that came to mind, there are others.

What makes you say the photo is a composite?

Because it is taken from the photo composite shoot made for the movie. Part of the footage is seen in documentaries. It is not a photograph or a Polaroid - it is taken directly from the film composite negative. You can even faintly see the black square they put over the section where exposure on the negative was to be prevented when shooting one pass, then moving the square to not double expose the area they'd already shot with the actor, so they can use the unexposed piece of the frame for the second pass around, so that neither trooper in the frame would become transparent.

It it was a shot with two actors, you wouldn't see that black squares outline, from when they shot the two passes onto the same negative.

Learn a little bit about trick-photography and film making before commenting so authoritatively that someone is lying, when the evidence is clear as day in the picture print.
