I have posted this project on several other forums but now realize this is where it should have been all along. As you can see, I started this from scratch in cardboard and fiberglass about 6 months ago. I will hit the high points because I have over 100 pics of this project so far. Please be honest and tell me what you think.

I think I've seen that before. Looks very nice for a scratchbuild and from start to ready to paint you've definitely come a long way. The face has nice proportions, but I don't know if it's the pictures, but it looks a little on the slender side.

The dome has a good profile and generally good shapes... there's just something that feels strange about it and it is the area where the crown meets the flanges... I don't know how to explain this, but it looks kinda pinched in a way.

But a very good accomplishment, I'd have to say! :thumbsup

I think it looks really good, you have captured the look. Very difficult piece to sculpt from scratch, I admire your effort.

Thanks guys. My attempt here is to use this as a plug for a mold and begin making these to order. I only hope they are well received since there are so many great helmets out there now.

I forgot that I took these shots after I fixed the flare problem. Props to my dad for looking at it once and telling me I needed more flare over the eyes on the dome. I guess sometimes it takes another pair of eyes to move forward.

I don't know how far you've gotten with your work, so this may come way late. But I had a few observations regarding your dome. Most people think it's round, but for the most part it's oblong with nearly straight sides.

I did a little sketch. Please forgive the crudeness of it, but I think it shows pretty well the areas that could be worked on a little more.
Image
The red line at the bottom and back of the flanges were done to show how I see the shape should be and could be extended to, whereas the yellow areas basically show where it should be flatter and not so round, elongating the look of the dome. The black line is basically where it should start going into the back-part curve.

However, these are just suggestions of work I would do if it was my own sculpt. What you've done looks good and already captures the shapes of Vader.

Happy to see you sharing this over here Alex.

Alex is a garrison mate of mine and I have enjoyed tremendously watching him create this from scratch. Glad you guys like it as much as I do.

Keep sharing Alex!

Thanks Chase. I agree about flattening it out some but lengthening it doesn't look right to me. I will post some new pics soon after the work I did today to flatten out the sides.

Well... the lengthening is only extreme looking in that picture. You basically have to re-position the dome on the face more upright.

I think Mac can tell you a few stories about that... :toothy

But seriously, Alex, these are only suggestions... if you are happy with it as it is, then you shouldn't worry about me. :cheers

Wow....I'd have to say that's a really nice helmet for scratchbuild...probably one of the best I've seen...and I'm serious it's really nice in its proportions...Vader is really hard to get right when you start from scratch like that...nice job!
