What do you mean by helmet? The dome, the facemask or both?

I like the symbolism: we start and we finish the original trilogy with ANH Vader... or, at least the helmet.

It can also be interpreted as the heinous defiling of the ANH Vader look on behalf of GL, which he is often quoted that he hates, by literally burning it for all to see.

Interesting double meaning, imo.

Interesting. What ANH helmet was used? The 2nd "spare" one. Why would they wait from 1976 -1982 after knowing Vader was a complete success would they burn a prestigous helmet. Doesn't make sense to me, unless this was just thrown together quickly or a bad ANH mould. I can't tell it is ANH other than the dome looks to be from the centre strip and peak. The chin vent is missing and it's in a bad state.

Well, maybe they had a "trashy or faulty" ANH spare casting still lying
around, and before burning something with a lot more work put into
or extra making a new one they just used that one ??? Hard to tell from
those pics and also from that barbecue scene in the movie ... :conf
