I started with a terrible recast Rubies, (possibly the worst exuse for a Vader helmet ever thats no exaduration ) which I picked up on the bay for around $20
It was in such bad shape I basicly cut it up in to bits and remade the face,by the time of tese pics id cut the cheeks off and repositioned them (though I dont know why i did that it wasnt really needed) cut the teeth out and theneck off and 2 inchs around the edges sthey were so deformend, I left it for a good year or so and thies week end I thought id give it some work, I got stuck in to it and though its not perfect its my first try at Vader, So I basicly resculpted the entire thing nothing of what is seen is original exept some of the dome, which Imade the edges thicker trimed the ridge to look like ANH and added a widows peak and sanded a few flat spots in it to look more like a real ANH piece how ever the flare is still very wrong

Yeah... that's a hell of a crappy looking cast to start out with, but the current result isn't half bad. It's not exactly in the realm of anything accurate, but it's definitely a transformation from something really ugly to something somewhat presentable.

I think you should work more with the eye-shapes as they currently look a little iffy.

Looking forward to seeing more. :thumbsup

Wow, that is some renovation! Good to see someone else in Sydney doing the same thing. Where are you in Sydney? and what products are you using? I've used SCA light weight auto putty, and milliput for my minor resculpts, and using SCA primer filler, with septone acrylic lacquer for the finish.

, Thanks Ive just reworked the eyes, think they look beter, and reshaped the cheeks again

, Yeah dont think there is that many of us in Sydney, good to know there are others, Im on the Northern beach's, you?

I use Plastibond epoxy for the finer detail, and Builders bog for the lay up, (There is so much on this that this thing weighs a tone)
For paints I just used cheap expotr gloss back spray, Ive just painted the silver and black over the gloss I use35 year old floquils that Ive been sourcing for a few years, and I was suprissed how good it looks the silver tends to melt the paint under it and causes it to turn gunmetal ish ill get some pics up later but (My girlfriend has banned me from using the camera unless under her supervison aparently I get paint on it)

I'm at Epping. I like your dome- did you have to mod it much? and where did you get the tusks from? I'm having issues finishing off my dome to ESB gloss. Looks like youre doing a ANH, so you'll probably be happy with a satin finish?

The dome took alot of moding , yeah ANH so satin it is, how ever the paints I Justused is a bit glossyer than id liked, Give the Eport black a try, yeah its 2 dollar shop paint but it actually is a nice gloss enamel much better than more expensive ones,I used it as a base for the dome didnt get pics of it before id sanded it though

Hope it makes sense what I did here. I altered the inside edge of the eye socket to make it look less round and more oval like the original. I also pulled out the bottom of the dome flange a bit on the right side (left in the picture) as it was bending in way too much towards the face.
