Hey guys,

I've been working on an ESB Darth Vader build for the better part of the past year. I've been lurking on this forum and The RPF looking at people's amazing builds and getting ideas.

I was able to connect with the kind folks over at the SLD for input regarding the costume. I'm getting close to completion and thought I'd start a thread to show off the progress I've made. Here's the list of components for my build:

Mask/Dome – Mike Warren ESB
Armor - Mike Warren DJ
Gloves – Noisetrigger
Lightsaber – MR ESB Conversion by BrotherVader
Codpiece – CRPROPS
Shinguards- Portumac
Boots- Russian Officer Riding Boots
Mannequin – 6'6" mannequin
Hilt Hook - Wannawanga
Belt - Earthly designs
Belt Boxes and Belt Buckle– Dark Side
Bodysuit- Fenix Props 3 piece
Chestbox – Dark Side - Currently in production.
Cape and Inner Robe - KevVader - Wait list

I based my build on the David Prowse measurements I found here. I started with and modified a decent sized mannequin. It had the right inseam, but I needed to add some length to the torso:

I needed poseable arms so I contacted Tom Spina. He was nice enough to sell me a set and they work perfectly. Tom also sent me the female receptacle for the arm hooks, which I later installed to secure the arms in place.

I padded out the torso with 1" mattress foam to get the mannequin to match the dimensions of Prowse.

Here's the current state of my build. Just waiting on the chest box and cape set to complete the components set.

Thanks! I hope so. Should have my chest box and cape set by year's end. I'll make sure to post some photos when it's all done.

Thank you! Just received word that my chest box is on the way. Should have it by the end of the month.

ESB Life Size Vader Statue.

I can't believe this project is complete! I've been working on it for the past year, connecting with the best vendors and tweaking as I go. So many awesome people involved in helping me make this happen. Very thankful for everyone who helped and offered advice.

Chest looks smaller on the completed shots compared to the wip shot. Did you remove padding? The Wip shot appears to fill out the armor better.

Also what is with the stitched line running down the cape? Does it have a corduroy strip?

Still looking very good.

Thanks for the feedback!

Chest is exactly the same. Nothing was changed of removed. The body still completely fills out the armor. Probably just an optical illusion with the lighting. The chest circumference is approximately 50".

For the cape, are you referring to the stitching used on the outside edge for the lining? I believe stitching is the only way to adhere the inner lining to the outer shell of the cape. There isn't stitching at the bottom hem of the lining in order to prevent the material from pulling. I don't have the corduroy strip, as that was used to prevent the cape from catching. Since this is a mannequin build, it wasn't functionally necessary. This cape set was made by Kev Vader who's regarded as having the best cape sets.

I did make a change since I took my final photos. I added more height to the neck post and tilted the head slightly forward. I think this gives it a more natural appearance.

Before on the left After on the right.

Odd. The chest in my eyes looks smaller then it does in the WIP shots(more space around the chest plate corners). But glad to see it properly sized.

Regarding the cape. Kev does the vertical edge wrong. He folds the satin out and wool in. There looks to be a visible stich on your cape as a result from all the folding. The ESB and ROTJ capes material simply ends at that edge and are blind stitched. I want to correct this on my Kev cape but never got around to it.

Okay. I didn't know that. I probably won't bother with that. I don't want to risk damage to the wool or lining by getting that adjusted.

I'll have to post some photos with my altered head position. I like the look of this angle!
