Another factor is for reflected light we see the color of the light itself. In the case of the first picture, I'm pretty sure this is the lighting setup for that shot, as well as for the "That's it, the Rebels are there..." scene. I have no idea what shot that is for, but the camera is behind Vader in this photo. ;)
Judging by the angle, that could be the "Opening Vader scene" where he's looking out over the fleet of Star Destroyers. All you see is from the shoulder's up, and there is a LOT of reflected light on the back of Vader's dome - especially on the right side (opposite of the camera).
