Another factor is for reflected light we see the color of the light itself. In the case of the first picture, I'm pretty sure this is the lighting setup for that shot, as well as for the "That's it, the Rebels are there..." scene. The reflected light from this bright cool white light could be contributing to the "pop". It's yet another example of Kershner's masterful lighting techniques.

Two thumbs up on that photo, Bantha. Very cool. :thumbsup :thumbsup

I have no idea what shot that is for, but the camera is behind Vader in this photo. ;)

Judging by the angle, that could be the "Opening Vader scene" where he's looking out over the fleet of Star Destroyers. All you see is from the shoulder's up, and there is a LOT of reflected light on the back of Vader's dome - especially on the right side (opposite of the camera).

Here are some screenshots from the Star Wars Interactive Video Game. There are several shots in the game over Vader's shoulder looking at the console display. Gilbert Taylor, cinematographer for the original Star Wars, was brought in as well as David Prowse, for the new video footage in the game. The set and lighting is reminiscent of the Star Wars Death Star.

ESB Star Destroyer set. Here is what I really should have posted earlierto show how meticulous and complex the lighting setup was. Bounce board Frenzy! Kersh made sure that every facet of that Vader helmet showed up cleanly in all its glossy goodness.

Was just rereading this thread and realized I probably bumped it off course. Circling back to the OP's original question: How many ESB Hero screen-used helmets were used?

I believe there's an older thread that addresses that question, I'll post the link to it when I find it. Unless someone else finds it first. 8-)

Probably 2 ESB Hero helmets, as Alan stated.
