Is anybody willing to share the differences between the ANH and ESB suit? I know the ESB suit isnt all leather especially the pants. Are there any pics which show the differences? I always thought i would have seen pics in the past but i'm not able to find them anymore. So any info would be appreciated.

Both body suits are 3 parts. The vertical stitching was done differently in ESB. It was done in a patch work manner as it pieced together instead of just sewing lines on it. the ESB had a lot more cotton around the legs soo only the front of the knee and front of the thigh wore leather.

No I do not have pictures that vividly show the differences....That kind of reference is sparce. The body suits look very similar when they are coverd with fiberglass, wool and the other costume parts.

Hi vader45, I'm not sure what you mean about patchwork manner, but if I can just correct one small detail in your post, the rear of the legs on the ESB costume were also leather. The black cotton forms strips along the inner and outer legs and below the knees. There is (very brief) proof if this in ESB as Vader takes a stride forward past the camera around the line "you may use whatever methods necessary.."

Also, this photo in Paul's thread over in the Exhibit Vaders section of the Den shows the hero leathers from the ESB Vader costume (although obviously other parts are not screen used). You can see the leather on the backs of the legs.

Hey Nick sorry for the delay replying!

The suit under the cod is glimpsed a tiny bit in this shot from Paul's same thread, where the cod has slipped a little bit.

We can see there's a zipper there and the sewn lines on the front leather portions of the pants continue up to the waist. That's all I really know about what that area looks like. In terms of the leather and cotton used I assume the vest is pretty much like the ANH one.

Hope that helps!

What I mean by patch work is that, the body suit patched to gether in pieces of patches. Its like a patch sewn onto a work shirt. Its like that but with the whole suit.

And yes I can clearly see the leather in the back of the leg.

Older thread but i still also have some questions about that ESB suit.
As i'm currently working on it, are there just zipper on the back of the jacked or also some straps to make some adjustments as well?

I have seen photos of some suits, I think from LFL, that have wider space between vertical stitches in the leather across their chest than on the arms. The photo of David Prowse for the interactive board game is one example. Is this a known variant of the costume? I also wonder if that is the jacket Brandon is holding up in the video promoting his OT costume book. It does show straps at the bottom.

Ah, @banthapoodo: I know what you mean. Those suits are generally classified as "TOUR" suits.

Incidentally, does anyone have pics that show the cotton portion goes on the "OUTER" part of the thigh? I am not quite convinced that it does.
We are all familiar with the well utilized reference shots of "Vader and the Bounty Hunters" as well as the "Meditation Chamber BTS" shot as well as the "Exhibit" pics which all show the inseam/inner thigh as having the black cotton section. However, I have yet to come across a solid pic of the cotton on the outer thigh with Prowse as the wearer. The only solid pic I have is of the stunt suit that does show full leather on the outer thigh..but as we know, the stunt suits were mostly Tour appearance suits as they had fasteners and adjusters to accommodate other persons/stand-ins donning the suit for a particular scene...

What do you guys think?

Well only know about that pic here.

But it's a good question if they also did the cotton outside as well.
Also can agree about the stunt suit from Bob.
There is just the full leather trouser to see.

Is this pic below also from ESB or RotJ?

I would surmise ESB. Irvin Kershner wasn't involved with ROTJ, right? The director was Richard Marquand.

Than i would say, on this trouser there is no cotton inside or ouside to see.

So the trouser with the cotton inlay may just get used in the meditation chamber scene for a better comfort?
