This came up back on Phil's old private board "before the dark times" so to speak, but it warrants resurrection now that Jesper is going forward with casts

Basic Question: How would you all paint your CV helmet?

I can think of the following options:

1. All matte black (a la ANH dome)
2. All gloss black (a la ROTS)
3. All gunmetal
4. Black Dome, Gunmetal Mask
5. ANH-ish scheme
6. ESB-ish scheme

What do people think? What would look good? Any artists/photoshop wiz's are to take a stab at some computer renderings?

since this helmet is the concept vader from before IV, i think i'd like to see it painted flat black. considering the gunmetal color wasn't added until filming commenced, in theory, the concept vader would have been a pure flat black. just my 2 cents...

I like the prototype thats all flat black but I would like to see it glossy. I believe the original ANH screen helmet was glossy black. The gunmetal was added to add contracts for the lighting and film conditions.

If I add gunmetal to mine it will be after its been painted black.

The thing with the gunmetal is there is no pattern to go from, what would remain black if you went ANH style?

Maybe JRX could post just the three sides of the face to use for paint play. I know my dome will be all black.

If ANH was glossy, then what would you call ESB? Super Ultra Glossy? I admit the ANH had some shine to it, but in comparison...

ANH is gloss black. ESB has clearcoat as does ROTJ.

None were flat black.

I was thinking of flat black with gunmetal drybrushing maybe. trying to go for the look of the famous production painting.

Does anyone know of any good painters who could do the work for me?

Yeah I would paint in the basement if it was just me but the wife and kids need the brain cells. :lol

I will get some pics for you. I am not the fastest painter but I do take pride in my finished work. This one may keep me busy as I think I have three already lined up as it is....
