I have an extra MH-1 Fett helmet and thought that it would be nice to finish it up as Jango. Are there many differences between Boba and Jango's helmets besides color, weathering and dents?

:cheers

There is size and slightly on the shape side. The Jango is made wider on front to back, whereas the Boba is side to side. Minor things and some detail differences that can be better explained by people who know more than me.

Cheers.

- On the Boba, the ear cap covering the stalk is higher creating a little gap between the upper and lower ear cap. On the Jango, the ear cap is lower with no gap.

- Boba has a small detail on the left cheek (borden connector), while Jango has a small hole in it's place.

- There is a small rectangular indent on the inner right cheek on the Boba, but there isn't on the Jango.

- The rangefinders between the two are different.

- The key slot area in the back slightly curves up and out on the Boba, but on the Jango it's straight up and down.

- Obviously no dent on the Jango, except for some Jangos that had a completely different dent.

I think that's everything. At least, the biggest differences. :)

So is the overall shape of the helmet is the same as the Boba?

- I remember that around the time of Episode II it was suspected that the helmet used for Jango could have been an Altman's, but you can't seem to find these anymore. I was hoping that it was possible to convert the Boba into a Jango without too much trouble.

Well... the Jango looks more like a Boba DP DLX or 95 than a screen helmet - shape-wise.

I don't believe the Jango was based on the Altmanns, but have nothing to support that thought. Seem to remember talk about a specific production helmet being used... but really don't know.

Kind of..

I believe it was made much like how the ROTS Vader was made. They scanned an original Boba helmet and then cleaned up the scan to make the Jango. The outcome was like what NHM said, being that the helmet looks slightly longer front to back and slimmer side to side. Also the curves and corners are a lot sharper and more defined.

Just a little comparison to show the Jango being slightly slimmer,

Also, forgot to mention that the Jango is much smaller than the Boba.

Well then there goes that idea. Sadly there seems to be too many large differences between the two, and I don't have access to a scanning/milling machine to be able to properly replicate it.

Is there anyone who produces accurate Jango helmets then?

:cheers

Not many people make Jango helmets.

There are the FP cold cast helmets out there, but they're very rare and can be expensive. I always forget the exact story behind them, but I believe FP's molds are original ILM molds. Either that, or he had an ILM cast helmet and made his molds from that, but I'm pretty certain his molds are ILM molds. I thought I heard something about Bobamaker maybe offering some of these ILM cast helmets, but haven't seen anything else about it.

There are also the BKBT helmets. They're converted Boba helmet casts so they're not totally accurate, but still great quality helmets.

Thanks for that info. I'm surprised to hear that anyone could have ILM molds that are from the new trilogy. Not disbelieving, just surprised is all.
