After Staff review, we have decided to move the STS thread for the time being - it has not been deleted and its contents are preserved in case we ever need them back. However, nothing in that thread directly relates to prop collecting or building, and its contents did more harm than good.

The Staff would like to take this opportunity to recognize that while all users are entitled to their opinions on any subject, statements against other users become more than opinions when they are framed as unsupported factual allegations. Unsupported factual assertions of this kind will not be tolerated at the Den. The Den Staff recognizes that the two users around which the dispute in this thread centered have differing views on their past transactions, and no more. We apologize to all users and readers involved for allowing the thread to unravel as it did, and with our new Mod staff, we will keep a closer watch from now on.

imo the thread had important implications.

There are certain people in this hobby with some pretty big claims over prop rights to reproduce and are the first in calling out others for not adhering to the hobby's "rules" in recasting others work.

It was therefore very interesting for people to understand the facts behind one such replica helmet, most especially when one of the "owners" of the moulds in question (albeit digital ones) made substantive claims that his rights had been compromised.

Its a shame some were not able to have the discussion without falling into spite and name calling but that should not detract from the information held within the thread. Otherwise this boards policy would be to preclude any discussions on any issues concerning recasting

If we could understand the facts behind such issues, that would be great - but as I noted, the lack of proof turned what could have been facts into accusatory opinions, and that is not accetpable.

This was supposed to be an announcement and not a discussion thread, but I forgot to lock it when I posted it - the discussion ends here. There will soon be a thread in the Users section about forum rules/policies/goals, and I will move the above post to that thread when it is started.
