I believe the DP DLX is the combination of an ESB mask and a ROTJ dome, despite being advertised as a cast of ESB.

I came across a photo of an LFL Exhibit mask. I decided to do an overlay of the mouth. Sure enough, the LFL prop had a "jaw droop" that correlates with that on the Don Post Deluxe. I thus do not believe "jaw droop" to be a result of "warpage". The bottom lip of the Don Post Deluxe looks oversanded. The teeth holes, of course, are over-filed as we know.

Hi Guys,

The only thing I can say on the numbering system of DP Deluxe Vaders is I don't think the number means too much. I have a friend who stripped a really low number helmet and there was a number under the paint on it which was the same as the plaque. He stripped the dome and the number was much higher and didn't relate to the plaque. He later stripped a higher numbered helmet and the plaque, faceplate and dome all had different numbers.

I have always presumed they made a number of faceplates and domes numbered them to keep track then once painted chucked any old plaques on them.

If anyone else has an experience of all the numbers tallying up then it may disprove this theory but I find it hard to believe the same person bought two DP Deluxes stripped them and they were the one person this happened to.

Chris

So, what was the structural difference of the facemasks, lower to higher number? Do they correspond with the myth that lower means better shaped?

No they don't.

The degree of neck flare may simply have to do with whether a mask was still curing or not when pulled from the mold, and if it was placed face up or crown up - the latter would have spread the neck more.

Even the original had "jaw droop" but some compression or sanding to the lower bottom lip (possibly to put a "tell" into the Deluxe line) and the mask's tilt to the right when placed upright on a table emphasizes the right tusk's appearance of drooping more than the left.

So no... the numbering is arbitrary.

It was a question to Chris about the two stripped DP facemasks and whether the interior number had anything to tell in relation to the shape.

Since it is not certain that the facemask number matches the number plaque and since many haven't stripped their facemask to see the actual number written in the facemask, we are only basing most of this discussion on the random plaques.

Hi Carsten,

Sorry I can't remember exactly what was what.

I do remember that the early plaque one which was really low number had a nice faceplate and dome had little flare. The faceplate number was low and corresponded with the plaque and the dome was also reasonably low as well. The other one was not brilliant on any front. Again though I think it was basically just a case of just your luck what one you got. I can contact the owner and see if he can tell me the numbers condition etc.

I tend to believe that the lower the number the better the helmet is a myth.

Any chance of seeing a photo of the stripped faceplate? (6 feet please, haha!)

My own DP Deluxe is #75, it had sharper details, less neck flare than later, higher numbers.

They aren't mine unfortunately. Both are owned by Anson James. I will try to get in touch with him.
