To me Vader has mechanical skull look to it.
It was and is an icon as well as an amazing original sculpture. When i first saw star wars at the Dominion in londons tottenham court road in 77, you were just just was blown away at the quality of the "print" and the sound. Vader and the troopers were a Mystery in the fact that you just couldn't tell if they were human or Alien.
Brilliant.
I wonder if brian sculpted vader today from the rough scetches if it would be slightly different. I Know first hand that when creating things that its a bit of organic process and these things have a habit of going in one direction or another?

cheers

Every sculpt would be slightly different however hard you tried to replicate it. I know one thing that if I sculpted Vader today I would definitely take plenty of photos and keep a cast or 10 :lol

Lol,
Just out of interest Brian, do you do much sculpture these days?

cheers

Only when I'm paid to - I finished on Harry Potter 6 in April and am 'resting' at the moment.

Pardon me if I missed it, but do you have a site up with your portfolio Brian? Someone mentioned all the work you have done on the different films (my kids love the Potter films) and I wondered if there was a collection of your work somewhere.

A website is the next project after finishing the book.

This is a great thread, thanks for participating Brian, Its great to get the info straight from the horses mouth so to say.
A bit off topic, but would you ever consider redoing vader if the opportunity came along?, like a licensed version? that'd be a cool thing to have.
Also what are your thoughts on the resculpted vader for ep 3, sorry if this has been covered before, seems a shame they didn't get you back to redo it

Hi Frosty,

I seem to remember meeting you at the NEC convention - you have an interest in everything gory I believe?

I would be willing to be involved with resculpting Vader for a licensed company if the opportunity arose.

I have stated before that although the resculpted Vader was a very professional job I still prefer the character in the original ANH.

Yeah, I can't understand why eFX hasn't contacted you about helping them bring out the best Vader possible.

Heck, they did the McQuarrie concept helmet.

Would be totally killer for their company too to get the original sculptor involved, imo.

Maybe someone should pitch that idea to them!?

I think on behalf of the community that we should contact them on your behalf, then, and see what they think of the idea. :thumbsup

Well... I went ahead and wrote them... but I think if more people wrote... the more it won't just seem like a crack-pot idea from one guy to them. :cheers
