It's late stage, but I did it for you anyway... just for you, NHM!

Image

This is a preliminary shot. The upper lines of the forward facing cheeks are now more curved. BUt I have a lot more work to address here so this shaping is not final.

I'm still fighting with the nose and how the cheeks flow into it.

Here, the mouth walls have been thickened, but it has not yet been 24 hours so I have to hold off till tomorrow morning until it cures....

... but still, that didn't stop me from working on the other areas of the mask.

I did some tweaks early in the morning, and then 8 hours later I added others. That theoretically means that instead of waiting a full 24 hours, I can stagger changes and work in the mornings AND evenings, if I am careful.

Here is some work on the skull. Remember I was doing a rim extension? Check this out.

Image

As you can see, the top-back of the skull has been fleshed out a little and sanded to make seamless. It will require some patching up here and there to fill dips. Usually a procedure may take 2-4 attempts.

The outer edge of the nose and mouth walls look fine... you should definitely keep all work to the inner edges and the nose indent - remember: the nose "hole" is the size of a normal sized thumb, as that's how the original was sculpted! :thumbsup

EDIT: LOVE the curve on the right side... very well done! :cheers

Great progress Mac! :thumbsup

I agree with NHM; a little more work on the inside. The outside looks just fine.

Wow, thanks guys. I'm glad you like it. I hope I don't let anyone down.

As you can see from my efforts with symmetry that I'm headed in a particular direction. You may be able to guess which movie's Vader I'm trying to duplicate.

So here is some work from today. I got home late and I ran out of outdoor light a little too soon.

Image

The symmetry is getting there. I reshaped the skull and the jowels and the right neck flare.

I also reshaped the cheeks and cheek lines.

I modified the bridge of the nose.

The symmetry won't be perfect because I'm not using a computer 3D scanner and CAD to mirror the thing. I'm eyeballing this in a mirror and doing frequent checking.

And I've learned a LOT from this effort.

Here on the neck you can see the repair work I've had to do to Casper....

The eyesockets are finally roughly the shape I'm kinda happy with.

I have to work on the nose to get it the right shape.

The triangle of the chin will have to be padded up and thickened, as I've sanded it too thin in certain areas.

Image

So here you go... that's it for tonight!

Did a lot of reshaping of the upper cheek surfaces and remodelled the lower eyelids to make them more symmetrical. "But they already were symmetrical, Mac," you might say. True, if you looked at them from directly in front. However, when I tilted it vertically, the eyes began to look different, and I finally figured out why. Sometimes it's obvious, but because you've been looking at it for so long, you don't see it.

As a result of the lower eyelids' shaping, I've also been able to adjust the cheek lines. Some of you might wonder what modifications NHM wanted me to capture. These are it: the cheek lines. They're not supposed to be straight on this particular iteration of Vader (can you guess which one I'm going after?)

The eyes are constantly going through refinement, as are the lower and upper inner eyelids.

The latest iteration:
