That portion of the original's face was dulled down, maybe with paint, fine wet-sanding or dulling spray so my guess is it's to replicate that look.

Sure... I can understand that. But the look was created by painting the facemask glossy black, then gunmetal and then painting some parts black again. It's clear to see in the pictures that the black didn't cover the gunmetal very well. On the idealized, they should not include such "errors". They should leave that to the handbrushed version.

I'd prefer the established paint scheme over something... well... wrong:

I disagree. I think for the casual collector this may be the "ultimate piece" but I think that huge drive for screen accuracy the Vader community has will keep us wanting and searching for better and more detailed pieces.
