I'm so sorry man.... Sometimes when things like this happen, it will actually force you to make it better than it was in the first place.

When I began to use the touch-up paint on my SPFX, not only did it eat through the black paint, but right through the gelcoat and into the fiberglass.... It meant sanding, repainting, and figuring out a different paint to use. All in all I was happier with the final result than I think I would have been going by my original plan.

Hang in there. I'm looking forward to seeing the final result of this figure that you've been working on for so long!

Thanks man... I was really shocked when it popped off, but it seems to be a fairly clean break, so probably somewhat easy to fix - will also be able to fix the slant now, since I can pretty much attach it in any way and angle I want... so... probably, as you say, better result in the end! :thumbsup

Latest update. All detail work finished on the front. Only minor fixing needed on the back, but I can now call it finished!!! :thumbsup

The right arm is a separate piece. I tried to put the head on the figure, but since the neck was too long and wasn't fitted to the body sculpt at all, it just looked weird, but the head is finished as well. Now I just gotta get me some money, so I can make those molds.

The hair is inaccurate so if you want to tweak it, let's review the following 5 paragraphs.

Haha, just kidding. I figured I'd mess with you like you've messed with me! :toothy

Seriously, the hair is now very believable. In the toy industry people tend to do the easy way out and do a slight approximation of a hairstyle that is not only easy to sculpt but is mold- and casting-friendly.

The hairstyle here has come a long way and is more true to the character.

Good work!

Glad you like. Yeah... I'm pleased with the hair now... looks much better than when I started...

Ah, so we're fans of the same film.

You know, with your talent, I am hoping you'd do your own take of the Vader ANH rather than wait for Gentle Giant. Despite their ability to do laser scanning and scaling things down, their offerings don't look quite like the original helmets, so I guess that they, like anyone, commission a sculptor to make a large sculpt, and they laser scan that and scale it down to make a bust.

What it comes down to is an original sculpt anyway and I think you should be the one to pioneer this!

Of course, I could me meaning all this sincerely, or I could be meaning this to get back at you for making me pioneer all these techniques on crappy Vader kits -- whichever is cheaper to explain, haha! :ac6

Oh hey, this might help add to the authenticity.

I'm not messing with ya here, don't worry. :ac6

I know a thing or two about hair styling having had professional hairstylists, models and fashion designers as friends over the years, so I'll pick up on small things here and there -- and yet have the worst fashion sense for my own wardrobe (nothing beats t-shirts and jeans, amen?!)

First off, the hair shape and profile is stunning. It's a keeper. What may help is if you create a sense of these few lines that break formation and dont' make the hair look too tidy. The topmost series of green lines -- if you examine the photograph -- the hair here does not lay flat but it's raised. All you'd need is to create a little cave or pocket here.

I also notice the left jawline (as illustrated) could use a little more cornering, and his left nostril could be a little more pronounced.

You've done very well with the nose. The chin might be a bit too pronounced based only on the shadow on the top of the chin that I see, but I haven't done a study of side profiles or anything, and it may simply be a lighting thing.

Very good work. I can't wait to see more!

I agree that there are some differences between my sculpt and the particular picture of Nathan Fillion I used, however, I cannot change anything on the master cast, as I would risk ruining it, so any changes will have to wait until I get the molding and casting figured out and I get the first cast in hand.

No worries. What material is that you're working with -- wax?

You've put in far more detail than many would.

These are merely "nice-to-have's" but nothing to lose sleep over.

So how does it harden? You bake it?

Does it produce a smell in the oven? Is it safe to bake regular food afterwards? Do you have to air out the oven?
