Was just wondering if anyone was familiar with for instance model trains and what accessories are available from these that could be used for the red and green lights on the belt boxes and the lights on the chest box?

I just thought, that being so small and having light features on them that it would be possible to buy LEDs that would fit a 1:6 scale figure and match the full scale equivalents.

If anyone knows some details and what I'm looking for it would be much appreciated if you could steer me in the right direction... or even to the right stuff. I know people have added light features to their kits... but for the life of me can't remember who I saw do that, so can't ask him/her for advice.

Well, this is as far as I came with the face sculpt.
Image

Problem is that it dried out, so it is nearly impossible to work with now, so I'll have to start over again. And this time I'll probably use sculpey firm grey as the regular super sculpey flesh is too soft and the color is a bitch to work it as it is too translucent - you can't see the real surface shape until you bake it, which is, with something this small and intricate, not very practical.

The dome work was a failure, but I did learn a few things to improve a future sculpt. So not a total loss.

For the chest and belt boxes I'm really beginning to feel that I need to find someone who can do it for me... too many cuts on hands and fingers for it to be fun... but more on that later.

Count me as impressed. Wow and you call that a failure? That looks great! It will only look better with the re sculpt. Keep it going.

Did some work on the ANH version chest armor, to see how it'd look. Needs more work, but will probably have to be removed and then with sculpey firm instead as the sculpey flesh is just too soft.

Cheers.

Why don't you Bake the clay on the facemask, instead of throwing it away?

You can bake the clay at a relatively lower heat, say 150F so the platic
won't melt..

You should try mixing Sculpey III Black (the small cubes)
with the Super Sculpey.. You'll get a dark grey..

If you do buy the Sculpey Firm Grey.. Give Me a PM and let Me know how
you like it.. I've never used it before and I've been curious

Looking good so far :) I give you a lot of Credit. doing a Vader that small
seems like a total bitch..

Oh... I couldn't bake it because I still needed to shape some areas... and it was becoming impossible to work with it, so I removed the sculpey. Don't worry, I'm still working on it, perfecting it and figuring out how to add things such at impressions that'll work as grills and such and teeth. I need to strip the paint from the plastic part of the head before I do any more serious work though, so I don't risk ruining things later.

Will keep you updated on the sculpey firm.

And yes... with the shapes in Vader's face... it's a real bitch! :lol

Had a little accident with the ANH Vader, when filling his legs with plaster. No big worries though, nothing I can't fix. Incidentally, because of the cold weather and with me handling it... basically the whole piece I'd done to the chest armor broke off and crumbled. CRAP... so gotta redo that.

Got some pieces in that I had outsourced to better manufacturers and I'm overly excited on how they turned out.

Well, it's been a while since I've updated on the progress on the Vader. Realized that super sculpey on vinyl is NOT a good option for re-sculpting pieces, as the sculpey has to be baked and the vinyl will just warp and melt. CRAP. Oh well. Can probably do the work with magic sculpt or epoxy sculpt instead.

But I've been working on the hard parts - a project that has taken many months and I can honestly say, blood, sweat and tears has been put into it. Still not ready, so am unsure whether I should show off the progress yet or wait until it is more complete. But I might as well share a bit of the progress with you guys.

Had a guy help me make 3D chest and belt boxes, but it was more work than he'd realized - all the tweaking back and forth took a lot of time and it was getting in the way of his better paying work, but he pretty much finished the pieces. Only need minor tweaking of very few details.

But the big thing is my investment in scanning hardware and software and I've been slowly scanning my way through a learning curve of several months to perfect the scans - am still not as good as the software allows, but so far things are shaping up. The plan was to make the most accurate sixth scale Vader pieces ever... and I'm pleased to say that that may soon be a reality. Scanned from actual 1:1 props with permission. And man... can I tell you it is a nightmare to scan a Vader face - all the shapes and undercuts and whatnot. YIKES... so the finished piece is a patchwork of nearly 70 individual scan slices just to make up one facemask - just to give you an idea of the work put into this when I show it off.

Sometimes I think it would just have been easier to sculpt the damn thing... but hey... I made good progress. Nearly finished with the face and chest armor - shoulder bell is done - but the dome needs re-doing. Man... it's been a crazy slow couple of months of frustration and amazement.

Ah... to heck with it... here's the current progress:
