Nice Mac. Looks like the two fit together pretty well. Looking forward to seeing goldie again!

Nice. Looks like you've pulled the armor too far up, giving it that choking effect. It should ride a little lower on the chest.

Keep up the good work! :thumbsup

Good observations, but some of it is actually intended by design. From neckline down to the front edge, the armor is longer than the screenused. In fact, the neck area is designed a bit more narrow. Here, I'm trying to wear the armor at a similar angle to how Prowse wore his, but the perspective distortion and camera angle isn't helping it look that way. This is where a person with a 40" chest will have a problem simulating a 50" chest look.

I remember back in the day when my third vendor armor was the Karline-2000 armor (he then later on ripped me off by taking my money and not shipping me anything). At the time, I was excited that his armor was a good fit, except that it fit a 40" chest okay. From the side, I looked like a Vader with a big head and a small body.

I still haven't decided which way to go: to optimize to body shape or to try to simulate a Prowse build. If all else fails, this can still serve as a foundation for an all-out clay sculpt. Anyways, armor-related discussion will go in its own thread. The point I'm trying to make is that I'm not yet fully decided on what an "everyman" armor should be like but it will ultimately compliment the mask as much as possible when the sculpt is finally done.

Looking intresting now. As far as it goes for comfort vs accuracy, couldnt you flare it at the shoulder ends? This would allow you to have a better fit in the center but from the side it would look in proportion to the helmet.

Vaux,

It's an idea but the armor could end up looking like Threepio's chest. The challenge with Vader armor is the depth of Prowse's 50" chest.

So that we don't go off-topic, may I invite people who are interested in discussing the armor, specifically, at:

For those of you concerned about armor, this thread:

http://www.therpf.com/f45/vader-appeara ... -a-103025/

... shows a person using LFL prop armor, but despite its accuracy, the person's thinner chest caused the armor to lay flat and to increase the neck gap. Wearing the armor at the same angle as Prowse afforded by his chest muscles and chest depth means that the armor is sticking out.

So there you go... people who are size 38-42" are naturally going to have a problem fitting in size 50" armor, and tilting the front upwards will create a choking look.

But let's please keep the focus on Goldie and not the armor. Thanks! :thumbsup

Today I went to Best Buy and bought a Canon SX210 IS for around $250. Initially my eye was on the $150-range models, but when I tried photographing product boxes 6-9 feet away, the more expensive Canon SX210 showed better detail in lower light. I decided to take the plunge, as not having a good camera really bites.

As promised, here are some better shots. Those of you who have expressed so much support towards Goldie seeing such grainy and fuzzy images - thank you! You either have a great eye, great faith in me, or you are insane. :toothy

From hereon out, I hope to go back to posting better images. No more rinkydink iPhone.

What you're seeing is Goldie with continued dremel work of the teeth holes. I finally decided it's easier for me to remove the stuff in the tight corners and then resculpt the detail, rather than to try to file those areas and drive myself insane. Actually, resculpting everything is still going to be a lot of detailed work, and I have to be just as careful.

Pardon the blue tape - it's to keep the thing on the red umbrella stand.

Whew! 30 pages later I've got to the (current) end of this fascinating thread. Talk about making a silk purse from a sows ear, perhaps the expression should be 'bringing a new hope from a pile of....'

I can see now why you're advocating the use of clay over other materials - this has truely been a labour of love.
Thanks for sharing this - it really helps newcomers like myself to begin to see all those subtle details that bring the mask to life.

Thanks, Nikon!

At this point, I'm sure some of you have been reading the Quasimodo thread. It's official: I've given the Goldie dome to Quasimodo. The proportions did not seem right with Goldie, but with extra material and careful tweaking, the dome is now larger too large for Goldie, but a perfect shape for Quasimodo.

I'll figure something out for Goldie.... :grumpy
