Honestly... he's like mini-Michael Bay - slightly better filmmaker, but damn... too much of a one-trick gimmick pony. Of all the talented directors, they picked the Star Trek lens-flare guy.

yeah my thoughts are the same.

not quite sure that this is the right guy for the job.

i just think its a conflict of interest with him being the director of ST

but i guess all we can do is just sit back and wait and see how it turns out.

better be good or its not going to look good for Disney.

The actual question of the day. The real question - will John Williams score the film?!

Without him, can we even call it Star Wars?

..oh I don't know, I'm not getting especially bad vibes from Abrams directing. I enjoyed Super 8 as well as the last Trek movie.

The Trek Universe is very different in style to the Star Wars universe, and as a fan of Star Wars I'm sure Abrams know how each style needs to be approached. The whole lens-flare thing is amusing, and there have been a few gags made about it already but Abrams must be well aware of what fans think about it, so he'll probably go out of his way to not introduce it into Star Wars. He must know people will be waiting to pounce the moment they see it on screen, anyway I'm sure I read that he's admitted he went over top a bit with it in the last Trek movie.

So good luck JJ!

..(and yeah, please clear your schedule for scoring sessions Mr Williams!)

well lets just hope that he doesn't apply certain aspects of the Trek films to the sequel besides the lens flare.
things that may relate or are similar to what he did in those films. if he is smart he will try and replicate what was done in the OT.

i guess it will be a real test to see how good of a director he can be. and create something that is completely different than what he has done before in the same genre of films.

i agree. no Williams and its a fail from the start before it even hits theaters. Williams' score is the soul of star wars. i also agree without it. its not star wars
