Hi guys,
first of all thanks for the support :thumbsup
I got a second message from the seller with some other infos. He got the helmet in trade from a guy in Australia who's name was Bentley Otool or something like that. He told him he had a huge SW collection to trade. The helmet he got was a finished helmet but the helmet was not shiny enough for pitifon so he decided to rework the paintjob and failed. He cancelled the auction on my request and will keep the helmet to himself. He is member on the RPF and will make a statement in the RPF-thread also to clear the situation. What we need to know now is if the helmet is a painted recast of Jesper TM or one of the original painted helmets from the first run. If its the second variant and all the helmets from the first run were still in the possession of the original owners that i would like to hear what DIF has to say. I'm still surprised i havent heard anything from him to date regarding this ebay auction. To make on thing clear....i'm not saying he is guilty 100% but it still looks very fishy for me.

Ah... Bentley O'Toole. Now there's a notorious recaster.

I know of him. Just ask anyone on the RPF... BIG warning signs all-round. If he's truly got access to a TM RotJ... well... that still leaves who HE got it from.

Stuff lost in the mail come up for sale occasionally, like a thrifters market or whatever it's called or, someone in the post office work saw what it was and decided to take it, so that could be the origin...

One thing that is certain is that he's a recaster... so, whatever that guy sent in trade has now likely also been recast - so whoever the eBay seller is: thanks for feeding the recasters with new stuff.

I'm the guy you ask for :pale

Here's what I wrote on the RPF:

Hi guys.

So I'm this seller. Before you start to throw me things to the head, please read what I've to say about this helmet.

First of all, you have to know that I'm a total noob about Darth Vader's helmets (you can ask what you want about TK or C 3PO helmet, but Vader is for me, a too dark area on the prop world).
I got this helmet in a trade.

I know that you'll say that it is the usual story, nevertheless, it's true. Believe me or not, but I'm not in the prop collection to cause any troubles.

I've had a good talk with Nick (Darth Niob) on ebay and regarding all the informations he brought me, I decided to accept to remove the auction.

Maybe it's not the helmet that you think but I'm not able to discuss of a subject where I've no knowledge.

I would like to open a bracket about the C 3PO helmet previously listed. It wasn't a recast and a true ZORG helmet kit, bought form him on RPF. And I guess you already saw the chrome trooper helmet. It has been made from a TE ROTJ helmet kit.

Now about this Vader helmet. As I said, I got it in a trade (I gave a stormtrooper helmet in exchange). I came from Australia for sure and got it from a guy named bentley otool (or something like that). And if I remember well, it's about 2 years ago now.
He had other props to offer (from other movies).

I kept it in his box a long time since I had other projects at the moment.
I planned to "rework" it since it was a little bit dirty and not enough gloss to me (I wanted a shiny helmet just like a MR finish, glossy like a glass).
Some month ago, I decided to do this little work on the helmet. And as a stupid guy, I used the first automotive varnish that I found in a can. It has a bad reaction with the helmet and I destroyed the finish.

A little bit disgusted, I started to gently sand it in order to restore the paint job. But it was very long and decided to stop the carnage.

Thus I used the « ugly » helmet as a test base for a chrome paint (which have been really help full in order to paint the ZORG C 3PO and the stormtrooper helmet).

I know that many of you wil consider me as a fool for this stupid choice, or a liar for this story. But it's the true.

I had many great helmet on my hands, with a true lineage. Mainly TK helmets kit like GINO, TE2, TE, CFO and other. I'm actually working on a RSProp helmet. And I've never been tempted to recast any of them.

I "only" recasted two helmets: Biker Scout from Don Post (in order to create an accurate lid) and a CAP TK helmet in order to create ESB MK2/ ROTJ v1 stormtrooper helmets (and I asked CAP before).

But I'll stop to tell my life since it's not the subject.

Nairod is a good guy. I have dealt with him on several occasions and wouldn't hesitate in selling to him again.

I guess he just got taken by a scammer and recaster. I've seen the approach before where the recaster wants something and offer something he's previously recast as a trade to get new stuff to recast... so I'm just wondering what trooper maker got recast this time - what Nairod sent in trade for the Vader helmet.

Still leaves how O'Toole got hold of the TM Vader to recast - the guy who supplied him with one or the opportunity. And once again it makes every single owner a suspect + the wildcard of the lost in transit helmet... and that's ALWAYS what comes out of dealing with recasters and will once again convince those who has these great items and is willing to offer to the community to think twice about whether they actually should. And the recaster just sits and laughs as he's lost nothing, as he doesn't care, as he'll just find something else - it's the rest of us who lose out.

And the Toole strikes again. :banger

Thanks for clearing that up Nairod.

I wish we knew how that asshole got hold of a helmet to cast in the first place.

Cheers,

Kraig

Thanks for chiming in Nairod and sorry again for my harsh comment :cheers
As others said its still open where this Bentley O'Tool (sounds like the name of a big porn star) got his hands on one of the casts.
I showed Jesper the pic of the inside and he is pretty sure that thats a cast from his moldmaker (fiberglas structure)...but if you look on the top of the inside there is no mounting mechanism or remains from it....that would mean that this was an unfinished cast, finished from a person x with this screw mechanism (O'Tool or someone else) and traded with Nairod.

Sadly i got a message from Jesper yesterday that his moldmaker mixed some orders from a TM ESB (from Jespers mold) and his TM Jedi mold (he is no SW expert and dont know the differences)...result was that some (no idea how many) Jedi casts went to a member and obviously were sold to person x.
Whats frustrating is that a cast went that fast into a recasters hands. The whole first run is just three years ago.

So in the end there are two alternatives....it was the missing cast or one of the x unfinished casts which were sold by a member here.

I still would like to hear what DIF has to say.

@Nairod Did you rebuilt anything regarding the dome mechanism (the former was lookin like a Tour helmet from the inside) and was the paintjob completely finished. Jesper finished the helmet not super shining but with a more accurate and rougher paintjob. You can see some pics here in the thread. It would help a lot to know if your helmet is a finished one (then i bet its the missing helmet) or if its a recast/original cast out of the TM mold which was irregulary sold.

Just a quick question Nairod. Where was the trade deal struck with Bent Tool? which forum? What trooper helmet did you exchange for the Vader? I'm just a little curious as to where Bent Tool would have been able to do any business in the last few years and inform the staff there of his shenanigans.

Cheers,

Kraig

Rather odd that a known recaster, who does shitty recast work at that, would trade you the original TM helmet. As Kraig asks, what are the details of your transaction with him and where did it occur? Can't have that guy be a member of any forum. I think I purchased some resin R2 parts from this guy about 10 years ago and the work was horrible. The parts looked like he had kept them outside in the dirt. Of course his ebay pics had the resin parts looking like they were brand new. I'm not sure when this guy turned bad because I hadn't heard anything negative about him back when I bought the pieces, but later found out he was a shady character.

Sad news on the TM helmet. :grumpy
Hope this will turn out to a good end.
Shows again how recasting stuff like this is a bash in the face for guys like Jesper.
Realy sad to betray someones trust this way.

But good news on Mark's baby daughter. Well done mate.:thumbsup
All the best this way for the young family.

I'm in the process of trying to find out more if I can of O'Toole's role in this, if any.
