That's looking fine. You'll know when the height is right when the widow's peak just barely intersects the top of the top noseslot, and the eyebrows of the helmet just barely start to cover the eyebrows of the eyes. I sometimes put the widow's peak just a little bit off center as well, not dead center.

These VMO2s seem pretty rare. I wonder how many were made...

Thomas, I have no idea how many were made. Maybe someone could shed a little light on the subject.
As luck would have it the dome does sit quite well off center, I just straightened it up for the photo.......
I have grown quite fond of this helmet especially now it has that studio finish apposed to the perfect finish so many strive for. Having worked in the business a little I know that not everything needed to be perfect especially back in the 70's and 80's when film just didn't show details off. I tend to have the screen used or screen ready look to most of the props I make or put together.

Now, that's a helmet to be proud of. Turned out very nice indeed. Well done! :thumbsup

wow.
Thanks Carsten!
I've loved doing this and I don't think it turned out too shabby for my first attempt at painting and fixing a Vader helmet.
I'm tempted to sell this now and move onto another Vader, but I've grown quite attached to it and might just enjoy it a little longer.
I don't unfortunately have a man cave to show everything and living in a flat with a wife that has no interest in my obsession with Star Wars I'm limited on how much I can display.

Who knows maybe I'll get that man room one day...

I'm enjoying the paintwork, I'm enjoying the photos, and I even like the lenses...the curvature is pretty good. Nice grills too. I could nickpick of course but that doesn't take away from the overall very nice look of this helmet. Consider how many years and iterations SPFX and JB went through to try to get the "look" and that makes this helmet all the more interesting.

The interesting thing about the paintwork is that is almost looks like there is more detail under the paint than there really is, just based on how you painted it. Perhaps it is the lighting that reveals texture in the paint. I think any collector would be proud to have that in their collection, just based on the looks alone.

I am sure there were many fewer VMO2s than VMO1s. I think there were maybe 20-30 VMO1s but just a handful of VMO2s....maybe 10 at the most...because I think the run was cut short for some reason.

As long as you have room for boxes to keep your collection in, I'd hang onto it unless you are looking for something better...

Definitely a man's job you've done there! From reconstruction to paint, it's a true success!

Thanks for your kind words Rich and Thomas.
You're right it has turned out nice and I think I may hang on to it. I do have a 20th C faceplate coming from DS and already have a GH dome waiting for some spare time. I feel this could give me a closer look of the actual helmet.
Thomas, I'm always looking for something nicer and one day would love the opportunity to own a helmet with a direct lineage to an original or near as.
I hope my 20thC arrives soon so I can get cracking on that.......Hint, Hint Kent...... :toothy
It will be interesting how it will compare to this VM with my painting technique on both.
Just out of interest Thomas what nitpicking would you do? I'm always looking on how to improve anything I do and I have the view that as soon as you stop learning you may as well give up. :thumbsup

It would be really interesting to see the VM mask next to the DS 20th because they should be from a similar source. I'm very curious how they will be size-wise. I'm betting the VM will be smaller than the DS.

Well, I see this thread as more of a show-off thread at this point rather than a critique thread. We know about the origins of the VMO2 and Graham (RIP) did a nice job restoring the VM dome. Any nitpick would be in relation to the nature of the 20th C/VMO2 dome themselves, not in relation to how you prepped the helmet to look so good.

Thanks and agreed....

When I get the 20th C I can make that comparison.

lovely job sskunky , nice to see a screen accurate look as opposed to a super shiny representation.

Mark , the co creator of the VM helmets is a good mate of mine, if i remember correctly the VM01 was a run of 50 but the 02 was a lot less, when Graham sadly passed away mark didnt have the heart to continue them so they are currently pretty rare.
the 01s differ from the 02s mainly by the domes, both have a reworked 20th century faceplate but the 02 has a more accurate dome which graham got from a screen used dome casting , with permission of course :thumbsup

can find out a bit more if your interested

Actually... the VM v1 was a GH style face mask, not the later VM v2 20th C face mask.

Since this is done, this thread should be moved to the prop section. :thumbsup
