Bear in mind that the FX name is kind of generic now there are a whole host of people producing armour under the FX name its just become a term that people use like people tend to call vacum cleaners hoovers

update:

well, I am somewhat of a happy camper. Just in time for my **cough** 42nd birthday, my SDS armor and Battle Spec should be here soon... within two weeks or so.
:toothy
I know, I know. But there are many reasons why I went the SDS route over other options, a few of which are the obvious ones. But the main reasons are the original, smaller helmet as I am a skinny 5'10", 150lbs and my FX helmet makes me look like a bobble head. AND the fact that it is pre-assembled, because I am the world's laziest person, quite honestly. The stuff is just gonna look better on me IMHO.

I now want to get my hands on a ROM/FX voice amp with static burst. Unfortunately they seem to be out of stock on them right now.

Just my luck they'll be sued just before I go to buy one of THOSE too.

Hey if you guys wanna watch something funny (and pathetic), check out this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD_g23nNC8I

This is me and my five year old son dancing this last Halloween. That's me in my trooper costume that I fashioned out of white sheet foam. Don't laugh!

(I heard that.....)

See what I mean about the FX helmet? Darn thing comes out to the tips of my shoulders.

Unsure where I got this link, but I heard this should be good stuff. Sorry if this is completely left-field for what you're looking for.

The ROMFX is pretty cool but expensive and the only thing it has over other voice amps that i can tell is it has built in static burst sounds
If looking for a cheaper alternative try triktoys http://triktoys.com/ dont be sucked in by the fact it says it has static burst sounds though you have to make the sound yourself by blowing into the mic for the static sound and make the click sound by making a click sound into the mic it does sound just as good as the ROMFX though by doing this i use one and its a third of the cost of a ROMFX
two other alternatives you can use are Hyperdyne and Skullworx
http://hyperdynelabs.com/products_elec.php
http://skullworx.com/
I have never used either of these or know anyone who has so cant comment on how they perform

Cheers

A few days ago I received a promotional email from SDS regarding their new products. The email also briefly mentions the ongoing LFL vs SDS battle:

Litigation with Lucas Film Licensing.

Following the DEFAULT judgemnet obtained by Lucas against us, in a small district court in LA , we have now successfully brought the case to the UK High Court, where we have entered a counterclaim against Lucas. We are claiming our Intellectual Property rights for the characters and councel`s opinion is that we should win the case… Watch this space…..

We thank you for your support so far, and we look forward to
continuing and expanding the SDS range of collectables for your enjoyment in the future.

Yours sincerely

Interesting. But his items are still a bit flimsy and a bit over-priced, imo.

Wonder who the UK courts will rule in favor of?

I wouldnt say the SDS stuff is any moreor less flimsy than most fan-made stuff. However I agree the MR stuff is a lot more robust (although imo less accurate certainly looking at the stormtrooper). Price-wise given everything is hand-made by AA I suppose he needs the charge a certain rate.

As far as who will win the UK case Its an interesting question. The fact that AA now aappears to have launched a counter-claim against LFL is very interesting......

Cheers

Jez

True. I would probably also think that the TE was flimsy, as I think I've grown accustomed to ABS and fiberglass, but I don't know.

These new helmets are also made from styrene or are they ABS?

It is definitely an interesting battle that is underway. It could blow everything we know to pieces and usher in new times for all.
