Here's the metal print I ordered from Photobucket from an uploaded photo of the back of the LP album. It doesn't compare to the mylar poster, but it turned out pretty nice! I was hoping the aluminum color of the metal base would blend in with greys in the print, but no. It's just a direct transfer of the image.

I got the glossy finish, though matte finish might look better (and less reflective). The metal print pros are that the image surface is very flat, and no worries about fitting it into a frame. Just one drywall screw is needed to mount it to the wall. The image surface floats about 1 inch from the wall, parallel to it. The metal option is kind of gimmicky but it goes well with this Vader print I think. Always use a coupon code (70% is typical) when ordering prints from Photobucket, and maybe tweak your uploaded image to be slightly lighter as the prints do come out a bit darker than expected.

Damn, that's sweet. And I would dare say, you could increase that print to 24x24", and it'll still hold together if the file you use is decent. (thinking)...

Tom Jung's artwork for the Star Wars album as well as Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the "Starkiller Duel" are probably the two most influential pieces of Star Wars art for me. I use the album cover as my avatar as well on some other sites  . I had my old album set up to display that picture for ages until one day it fell off the shelf and got demolished. I made up for it eventually getting a nice new record with the posters and inserts but also managed to track down a minty copy of the silver Mylar promo poster (stupid difficult to photograph). After the Style A One-Sheet this is absolutely my favorite Star Wars poster:

Cheers!

Dave

Hey Dave, when you framed this piece, did you mount the poster to anything to keep it flat? I had all of my posters mounted then framed.

Thinking about doing it to this new little acquisition. :)

Nah, it's just the poster in the frame. The framing set-up I have for that Promo Poster is an archival frame set from pictureframes.com with UV protective acrylic and an acid-free backer of 3/8" foam core. It cost just about as much as the poster did lol

I've never dry-mounted any of my posters. That's kind of a controversial move among poster collectors and can considerably affect resale value in many cases reducing it to basically zero. I had a friend years ago who collected movie posters and he had them all dry mounted and I saw that over time it did much more harm than good. I hesitate to do anything that would affect the original state of the poster, at least of a real collectible piece, unless it would be to preserve it and prevent it from further decay. I have an ESB Promo poster that is folded and I've thought about having it treated with an archival linen mounting to prevent the folds from falling apart but that's about it.

The frames my posters are in, are archive in nature - uv protected glass. The metal frames are definitely heavy duty, and the mount is non-damaging to the original material. But it's not linen mounted. I have no aspirations of taking these posters out of these frames.

The posters would be mounted in this frame and matting - though I'm debating on mounting the Mylar poster.

This is also one of my favorite posters - I just lose myself in all of the detail in the Star Destroyer. It looks like a big city sandwiched in there.

I had the Empire Strikes Back Official Poster Montly #4 version of this poster hanging on my wall (used thumbtacks) when I was a 11. :)

This one I have mounted is printed on an insanely thick stock. Me thinks it's a bit rare - and it already had a puncture - but it's barely noticeable now that it's mounted and framed.

I look at that Star Destroy poster - and just marvel at the model making abilities of that ILM artists. Would love to know what model kits they bought when they began piecing these things together.

Those posters are beautifully displayed craigjohn, really great job! :thumbsup

And you are so right about the Star Destroyer, I've always loved that image too. It was amazing to see the model on display here in London the other day. It. is. phenomenal. The kit-bashing looks mind-bendingly complex (to me) along the mid line, which extends much deeper than I'd thought. The detailing on some areas such as the back of the bridge though is deceptively simple up close. It looks incredible from a couple of feet away, but lean closer and you see that most of the panels lines are drawn on with pencil and there aren't as many kit parts as you'd think.

I've only just started dipping my toes in the Studio Scale modelling world, and have an ROTJ AT-ST underway, but even I reconised a couple of the pieces on the Star Destroyer.
Or Imperial Cruiser if you prefer

Love the new framing you have as well. I wish it wasn't so flipping expensive -- I've got 4-5 movie posters to frame still and it's going to be around $300 just for the frames :eek That's the price of some good prop pieces :lol

Nope. The framing wasn't cheap - but Michael's always seem to have some sort of custom framing sale. So it was a lot less expensive ($175) than it could have been ($550).

But worth it to me.

Price ramps up quickly for the larger sizes, and I didn't want to commit too much $$$ not knowing what it would look like as a metal print. But seeing how it turned out, yes I agree 24"X24" would look great.

Reminds us what's we're missing not having LPs anymore - the fantastic art work that was included with many of them! Ah, maybe record stores will come back again someday.

So. There's a series of creases on this poster. Wondering if it can be smoothed out if it's mounted.

Not sure I want to return it, but it was listed as a like new item / never opened.

So this is a bit disappointing.

a few pinholes, I could have probably lived with it. But creases/lines that run the length of the poster?...

Not even sure this is worth trying to mount now. Will be sending this one back. So bummed.

Also, the seller has another copy of this poster up for sale for $200. No way I trust this bozo anymore.

Actually, I'm finding there are quite a few Star Wars items listed on eBay that don't quite match their listing (don't ever buy from a guy named Jedi-Joe, nor InterGalactic). ...so very disappointed.

That said, there were several items (Star Wars Official Monthly Posters) that came in today that were just minty fresh. :)

The mylar Vader poster thing though - just kills it for me.

GAH! Maybe I'm being too picky. The poster is from 1977 - and it's bloody rare. And with that damage that's there - maybe it gives me good reason to have Michael's mount this poster to a board before framing. It's not like my Falcon/Star Destroyer poster didn't have a puncture in it (that was well repaired by the framing staff). ...then again, I didn't pay $175 for that poster either.

Oh, man, that SUCKS. I wonder if he would exchange it for you? I don't know if those creases would come out of the poster it may very well be work a consultation at the poster store.

I'm working on it with the seller. Sounds like they have several posters left. They're going to pull a good copy and send it to me. Trying to I certainly wasn't expecting perfection for a 40 year old poster, but not this wrinkled. ...still trying to figure out how they missed these wrinkles.
