And oh, forgot - the DJ ANH was sprayed with rattle can - car paint called, at the time, plasti-kote. I recall that Don Bies was using the exact stuff on his Vader prop repainting so I did the same.

The refined Vader is also same spray cans, rubbed out extensively but not the gun metal color - that is as applied - and then clear coat put over that and rubbed out with 1000 grit sanding preceeding layers of plastic polish and then wax.

Right - by all indications, the DJ came out of the same mold as the SL. The DJ though I didn't touch except for removing a "drip" that ran down the neck that turns out to have actually been in ANH. No biggie though in my mind - again I was out to reproduce the way it looked, not the prop (if that makes any sense to any).

Were I to re-do it I would probably keep everything and go for the prop but its all good. One thing I do like about it is that I used they eye contours that are in the mold (Tantavie IV eyes, etc.).

The other mask I have here has many times been called a hybrid of this and that but it also out of the SL/ DJ mold but cleaned up. I almost left the chin triangle small but cut it larger just because. I guess. And I left the widows peak on there too. But it is an ANH helmet just refined without any of the original size taken away - look for instance at the rods down the sides of the face - these were both built up and sanded such that their median thickness stayed the same as originally sculpted, etc.

Would you share shots of both of your helmets?

+1! Love to see them both!

I was under the impression that the mold for the DJ was to have come off of the re-painted screen used ANH that was used for the initial appearances..am I off base?

That would make sense, Jay. If the DJ exhibits screen paint traits.
Perhaps Thomas will let us know if the SL has 'the drip'.

Hmm - didn't I post shots of the two helmets here? Check it out - you have to click on them in my posts but let me know if there's a problem.
