It seems the way you posted that there were very specific problems with it that perhaps myself and DJ overlooked, but that you seem to think rule it out as being authentic.
And what exactly are you basing what a "true studio cast" should look like?

Insert canned response below:
Well you know that is top secret information that he is not able to share because he is not allowed to. I thought you would know that by now after it has been spouted out time and time again. Just look at his displays. Nuff Said! (Yes this is a joke for those running short on sarcasm.) :toothy

It'd be good to get his feedback/comments.

Brian Muir told me the original ANH mold of the sculpt was destroyed just after production in the UK. Without it, ILM clearly would have to remold the screen helmet. This will certainly force us to re-evaluate how we consider lineage in terms of not only the mask itself but the mold it came from and when that mold was taken from the original screen mask or helmet.

Just a point of clarification on the original ANH mold. Brian had pointed out to me that the mold off the clay head would probably have been discarded, which is what I referred to in this previous post. However, the mold for the plaster head which was given the final touches would have, according to Brian, been kept after the production. What it's fate was is anyone's guess, but it doesn't seem, to me at least, like it was used apart from the initial three pulls, because we know that the screen helmet went to the USA and that seemed to be the basis for a new mold from which the SL and DJ were derived. If the mold from the plaster master stayed in the UK, one would think it would have been used for ESB but it seems, again, a mold was taken off the screen helmet at some point likely before it went to the USA.
One would expect to see castings later on without any evidence of tabs on the mask if there was that original mold in use after production, but no such castings have been found to my knowledge. Nor has there been any account of such a mold in the Lucasfilm archives, at least to my knowledge.

Agreed! From the mouth of Lucasfilm archivist at the time, the mold at ILM was made only BECAUSE they did not have the mold from UK - didn't say what happened to it but it never got to the U.S. was the problem at the time.

I don't know sometimes what is more exciting about the DJ - because it is 2nd generation ANH or because it is 1st generation ESB material.

It would be fun to make an ESB out of such a casting.

And then I remember that I have a job instead of extra time!

By the way - got the MR Boba Fett helmet yesterday and I REALLY like it. Having gone through all the fiberglass and paint work to produce other things in life I LOVED getting something all done up already. Yeah, it has minor problems but I'm all thumbs up about it.

That's cool. And you finally got that ANH dome you so wanted. Guess it lives up to your expectations as such, eh?
