Seems Hot Toys is charging into the scene with their collaboration with Sideshow, but also doing their own line of Star Wars figures. They are known for going the extra mile with custom bodies, accessories, functionality, movability and sturdy figures and good likenesses.

They are doing epIV Han Solo & Chewie (unsure whether it is a combo pack or separate figures), and they are doing Han & Luke Stormtrooper disguise (unsure whether the helmets are removable and has proper likenesses, but it is definitely Han and Luke). From the sound of things, they seem to be planning a Vader as well.

Following are some pictures that was posted on Hot Toys' special announcement place and posted up on Sideshowcollectors.

Another picture was posted on Sideshowcollectors showing the troopers at the rear. Both have standard canisters, so the short one doesn't have Luke's grappling hook, but is still Luke short. Still interesting to see these troopers of different heights. Would be interesting if the armor is easy to remove, so you can experiment with different bodies.

What i really not understand.
Look at the other Hot Toys stuff like Iron Man, Batman,Predator what ever. Those things look like the movie costumes in 1/6 scale.
And now look at this stormtrooper.
Looks exact like the Sideshowtroopers.
Seems to me as they just used the Sideshowtrooper moulds and write Hot Toys on it.
As it is the same company, may that's the reason.

HT and SSC are not the same company. They did collaborate with each other, HT might have helped SSC with some items (TK figure included) and SSC is distributing HT stuff, but that is all.

Yeah, there's a big difference between the Sideshow Stormtrooper and these new Hot Toys Stormtroopers. If any comparison to a previous company's product can be made then it would be that they are up there with the Marmit Stormtrooper. To me the Sideshow trooper always looked like a glorified Hasbro trooper - a toy with a gloss coat. Nothing more. These look so much better. However, they really should just get access to an original suit, scan it and print it out in sixth scale and get it right.

That was fast. Just shortly after troopers and Han & Chewie.

They have a lot to live up to. They need to match or surpass the old Marmit Prototype before they catch my attention.

Yeah, hope they will. I'm getting their Stormtroopers but really hope the Vader will be good. Marmit good if possible. Then I could get rid of the SSC giraffe.

Interesting, I was actually going to make the opposite observation. Not to be contradictory but from what I can see I don't like it.

From the side, while it does look sizable, it's lacking the upward curvature the bottom of the dome exhibits. It also sits oddly on the facemask -- which itself looks like it is sticking out too far. Rather like the old Hasbro electronic Vader with the removable helmet only not as obnoxious. Could be the angle of the photo I don't know.

There is also something weird going on with the back of Vader's neck. It looks like they are either doing the neck brace or have given it a cosmetic treatment so that the mask completely surrounds his head almost like the original two-piece concept they had for the mask.

They really nailed the Stormtroopers and all of the other figures I have seen. I guess if they are going to drop the ball on anything it would have to be Vader. Don't know what it is about the helmet that is so elusive for sculptors to replicate but to date no one has captured it quite as well as Marmit.

I certainly look forward to seeing more pics!

The Marmit has a non-creeblie neckbrace on their ANH face mask too, so I guess that's standard fare. Very rarely have I seen a licensed scaled replica that actually faithfully reproduces the actual prop look.

Though we have seen a credible fanmade scaled replica that reproduces the actual prop look. The Marmit dome is close but to me even looks a bit too narrow and too tall.
