I just thought i'd post here to chart my slow progress in making an ANH helmet.
I bought a resin cast mask/dome from Sgt.Fang over on the RPF. The casting was a bit dodgy. The (Vader's Right) tusk tube end had collapsed in the mold, causing the flat mouth side piece to be pressed in, giving it a slightly concave shape. the eye ridges were very soft and there was a hideous seam across the middle of the brow and brow slots....

More to follow due to 3 attachment limit....

I cleaned it up, resculpted eyebrows, tusk tube and puttied/sanded.
Starting to look more acceptable....

Very nice and clean work. Did you pay full price for that helmet or did you get it as a second?

One thing about the eyebrows. They don't taper out into a point. There is a flat front surface separating the inner eyelid from the brow, illustrated in these pictures of the DJ helmet:

I adjusted the eyebrows in the next phase of work to incorporate a flatter edge, but every time i try to upload a pic, it tells me invalid image...even though the pics are within size limits....Sarge told me that i could have a replacement faceplate free+shipping when he eventually gets a new mold together.

Here are another few progress pics.

I'm currently working on modding a rubies re-cast FG dome...i think it's from a supreme.

More pics soon.

BTW, i haven't mentioned how nerve wracking it is submitting Vader to work to such knowledgeable, esteemed Vader guru's!

Try using photobucket or some other picture host instead of using the onboard service - there is no guarantee that the on board service won't slow down or crash the site.

Nice progress. The eyebrow needs to be sloped from brow to flat front edge - like a ski-slope - rather than a ramp-like protrusion. You can see it in the DJ pictures I posted.

Thanks TMG! I've sorted my photobucket stuff, so things should be easier. Looks like i need to do a bit more sculpting on those eyebrows!!

Here are some pics of the modified brows....i realise the flattened area is a bit large on both, but i'm happy with the progress.

Yeah, the front facing eyebrow part is now a little wide. Looking forward to seeing how it'd look once you've slimmed them a bit.

I wasn't happy with the width of the brow and the forward sloping aspect of the flat facing of the brow...(hope that makes sense).....i've since sanded, sanded, sculpted and reprimered.....although the width of the brow is still a little wide, i'm much happier now! Sorry for the out of focus shots....it's night time and the lighting in here sucks! :hehe-err

It's still way too wide. Also, on the original it isn't an even width across the length of the eyebrow. It tapers in towards the tips and is thicker at the middle, if you can picture that.
