I recently got an X-Wing helmet kit from Richie's Armor. For the most part it came all assembled, so it's just left me needing to paint it.

I'm hoping to go for the dirty snowspeeder look.
I've already tried a couple different weathering techniques with a mix of airbrushing and dabbing paint on a test surface.

I see this looking either really good or really bad in the end. Hope it looks good of course. :conf

Haha, just realized I titled the thread "X-Wing helmet" when I'm kinda actually doing a snowspeeder helmet. :hehe-err

Did some red painting. Got a pretty good match for the red I think.

Got a lot done...

For some of the painting, I masked off the surrounding areas and used average rattle can paint. Other parts, I hand painted like the yellow box thing in the front with the grey and black stripes.

Thanks guys. :)

I'm pretty much done the primary painting. Now moving on to making it dirty. I'm definitely not going for 100% accuracy, but just enough to give it the look and feel of the helmet in the snowspeeder. There are a couple details I left out or changed, mainly because they're nearly invisible due to weathering or whatever.

Btw, the trim is sticking out in the pictures because I was letting some paint dry)

Really nice job on the paint work! :thumbsup

I’m really looking forward to seeing the weathering.

Got it done in less than a week, hehe. :)

Well the weathering was fun. I was trying to achieve the look of it in this photo...

Probably a bit too blue, but I don't mind. I really like how it came out...

I'm considering taking a knife and putting some scratches in it and wearing down a few edges with sandpaper, but I'm not sure yet.

Altogether, this was a lot of fun. Definitely recommend this kit if you're in the mood for some fun painting. :)

That turned out great. If you decide to do the scratch thing, then go over the edges with some silver or chrome to give it that nicked metal look and then tone the shine down with a black or brown - or even purple - wash, to give it a more aged worn look. And for authenticity... keep some of the scratches shiny metal and age accordingly to show wear and tear over a longer period of time.

Looking really good.

Ahh, I like that idea. If I do it, I might try that.

Wonderful work!

I'd say: go darker with the carbon scoring, if possible. It doesn't have to be all dark.

Awesome. Great job on the lid. You probably could get away with some darker tones on the scoring though. But man...nice job!
