Great Interview. I like David. I know him since 1994. I even sculpted a Vaderbust for him in 2002. He is a warm hearded, very gentle guy. What a shame, that he didn´t appear in Episode 3. I would also have been a nice gesture of George Lucas...

I have read the same thing many times but at least he is consistent with what he is saying.

Yet again, he comes across as bitter towards LFL..Which to a large degree is understandable. Mind you he should of kept it professional and not vented his frustration to the UK press back in 1983.

That is the first time I have ever seen him say something or give credit to the work of Bob Anderson or James Earl Jones. That is really amazing. I suppose he's mellowing a bit in his old age...thanks for sharing. Although Bob Anderson did all of the fighting in ESB and was involved in ANH As well...

Thats Bob in your avatar is it not?

As for the interview, I think he should have been Vader (EP III) and was also suprised he is giving credit, but I felt he was more whiney than complimentary.

I dont blame him for being bitter though at LFL, they kind of shafted him to an extent BUT there are also two sides to every story.

He was able to walk at the time. Maybe not as he used to have, but i think more Vaderlike than Hayden. And for Vaders "first steps" it might have worked.

LOL, yeah. I read somewhere that he had both hips replaced. One had to be done twice due to bad surgery. He walked around with a leg that was 2 inches longer than the other for a while until it was fixed. He's is a great guy. I met him at Comic-Con 2007. I remember, I went up to him and said, Mr. Prowse I had a chance to shake your hand when I was 8 and I was too scared to do it. I have regretted that for over 20 years and so.... Can I shake your hand sir? He said "Thats Brilliant! I will most certainly shake your hand." Then he introduced me to his Grand Daughter who was hanging out there with him. He's a very approachable man and I am SO glad I finally did it. I shook Darth Vaders hand. He didnt even try to choke me!!!

Dave is a nice guy but he is in his 70's and even though he still works out,
his body is no where near the shape it was in the 70's. If you care to look he
was even getting a little out of shape by The filming of Jedi.

Add to that the undeniable physiological shrinking that anyone 50+ starts
to experience and there is no way on earth Dave could have accurately
represented Darth Vader for Episode 3.

They should have hired a big stuntman for the suit and had a mime / dance teacher choreograph the walk and stance.

Yeah, enjoyed reading that, thanks for posting it!

I agree with others Dave is a nice chap, I first met him in 93 when he agreed to provide voiceover narration for a university project. I phoned the gym he owned never really expecting he'd agree to help me for nothing, but he did. (I was completely star-struck at the time but it was amazing chatting to him afterwards).

I can't help feeling that if he hadn't been quite so dismissive of Lucasfilm he would have stood a much better chance of a brief cameo in Ep3, as Jeremy Bulloch and Peter Mayhew did. I'm sure it could have been made possible with judicious padding and boot lifts etc. As to not being the face of Anakin at the end of Jedi, well really that's just an actor's lot, whatever serves the story. Evidently Mr P didn't have the face they were looking for.

I think it all started because David always considered himself a serious actor and took offense to being in the suit and not recognized. He then thought that for ESB anyone could be used instead of him, for example. For him to seriously expect they would use his voice? It's worse than a B-movie villain voice. And then for him to expect they use his face for the reveal in ROTJ? Why? Just be thankful they used him at all given that he leaked information about the plot when he shouldn't have. Credit where credit is due but he always placed himself on equal footing with other actors and it's just not the case because other studios won't hire him because he works well in a suit...they'll hire him because of his acting ability. His view of himself as a serious actor is what got him in trouble with LFL....

Oh, and yes, Mike, that's Bob Anderson from ANH in my avatar...and that's the second helmet
